Dennis Berger, age 98, of Erskine, MN, passed away on Friday, June 29th, at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 13th, at Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine with the Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, rural Erskine. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin Funeral Home of Erskine and messages of condolence may be sent at www.carlinfuneral.com. Dennis was born on February 29, 1920 in Gonvick, Minnesota to parents George and Julia Bjerknes Berger. The family lived in Gonvick, Fosston, Minneapolis, and back to Gonvick. He finished high school in 1939. During the War years, he worked in defense work in Minneapolis and then moved to Erskine in 1943 and worked as a Standard Oil agent.Dennis was united in marriage to Elaine Olstad on June 17, 1948. They had two children, Jon and Deborah. Dennis worked for Berger Manufacturing and Berger Lumber Company and purchased the Mobile Gas Station in 1949. In addition, he drove school bus. He then purchased the Berger Store which he ran for nine years. Due to health issues, he retired in 1987. Dennis and Elaine spent winters in Arizona until 2008 when Elaine passed away.In Erskine, Denny was active in Grace Lutheran Church, the Erskine Fire Department, and Erskine Lion's Club and Commercial Club. He also was a Board Member of Pathways Bible Camp, Board Member of Pioneer Memorial Care Center, a Deacon at Grace Church, and was active in the Ness Café Monday morning Bible study.Survivors include his son, Jon (Patti); three grandsons, Tyler, Devin and Jory Harris; two great grandsons; son-in-law, Kevin Harris; three sisters-in-law, Karen, Marjorie, and Gail; and other relatives.He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine; daughter, Debbie; his parents; and brothers, Jerome, Miles, Robert and David.
