Emogene was born on January 5, 1928 at her Solberg grandparent’s farm near Fertile, Minnesota to parents Edward and Mabel (Martin) Solberg. At the age of nine the family moved to a farm near Erskine where she lived until she graduated from Erskine High School in 1945. She then attended the University of Minnesota, graduating in 1948 with a degree of Graduate Nurse. Emogene took many Extension Courses with the University of Minnesota during her career to maintain her proficiency. Following graduation she immediately began working at the Minneapolis City Hospital. Initially she became a ward charge nurse and soon thereafter advanced to the position of nurse supervisor. The City Hospital changed it’s name to Minneapolis General Hospital, then County Hospital, and finally to Hennepin County Medical Center. Emogene participated in the planning for the new facility and supervised the move of her units to the new hospital a year before her retirement.

She moved to Erskine and renewed old friendships and associated herself with the church of her youth, the Union Lake Free Church where she was a very active member until the church closed. She then began attending Dovre Free Lutheran Church in Winger.

Emogene enjoyed various forms of oil painting, creating beautiful Hardanger embroidery pieces, was an avid reader and went on several trips with friends. Emogene will be missed by her family and friends, including her little four legged friend Princess who was her faithful companion for eight years.

Emogene is survived by sisters Joan (Dave) Vick of Watertown, SD, Ruth (John) Stimpert of Devil’s Lake, ND, Rita (Sheldon) Trandem of Erskine; brother Bruce Solberg of Erskine and Lanny (Paula) Martin of Pembina, ND. Also surviving are nieces Sheri (Phil) Altepeter, Tracie (Vic) Potter, Susan (Jeremy) Safranski; nephews Mark “Corky” (Stacy) Skoglund, Mike (Jennifer) Vick, Mark (Susan) Vick, and Scott (Cathy) Trandem. Several great nieces and nephews and cousins also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister Joan who died at the age of five, a brother David “Toby”, a brother Jerry and a niece Marie Vick.
