Glen Laverne Brown was born on January 14, 1928 in Kent, Minnesota to parents Asa and Neoma Johnson Brown. He grew up in rural Deer Horn Township near Wolverton, Minnesota and attended rural school at District #22. He farmed with his father until entering the United States Army in March of 1951. He was stationed in Fort Hood, Texas until his honorable discharge in February of 1953. After his discharge he returned home to the farm.

After 28 years at the Ford garage, he opened his own business, Glen’s Sharpening and Small Engine Repair. He owned and operated this business for the next 28 years. At that time, he semi-retired and did some repair work at the home of his son, Dave, north of Fosston.
Glen enjoyed his work and could fix nearly anything. He also was an avid reader. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Fosston where he was active on various church boards through the years.
