Glen Brown

Glen Brown, age 90, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Saturday, August 18th, at his home. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 25th, at the United Methodist Church in Fosston with the Rev. Michelle Miller officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Sabin, MN. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Military honors will be conducted by the National Guard Honors Team and arrangements are with the Carlin Funeral Home of Fosston. Messages of condolence may be shared at www.carlinfuneral.com. Glen Laverne Brown was born on January 14, 1928 in Kent, Minnesota to parents Asa and Neoma Johnson Brown. He grew up in rural Deer Horn Township near Wolverton, Minnesota and attended rural school at District #22. He farmed with his father until entering the United States Army in March of 1951. He was stationed in Fort Hood, Texas until his honorable discharge in February of 1953. After his discharge he returned home to the farm. Glen was united in marriage to Dorothy Poehls on June 17, 1954 at St. James Church in Barnesville, Minnesota. After their marriage they farmed until August of 1958 when they moved to Fosston, Minnesota. Glen began work as a mechanic at Matson Motors in Fosston and then Ford Motors in Fosston in 1963, working for then new owners, Don Simonson and Bill Henney. After 28 years at the Ford garage, he opened his own business, Glen's Sharpening and Small Engine Repair. He owned and operated this business for the next 28 years. At that time, he semi-retired and did some repair work at the home of his son, Dave, north of Fosston. Glen enjoyed his work and could fix nearly anything. He also was an avid reader. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Fosston where he was active on various church boards through the years. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Dorothy, of Fosston; four sons, Doug (Shirley) of McComb, MS, David of Fosston, Donald (Rayette) of Jamestown, ND, and Duane (Connie) of Fargo, ND; 13 grandchildren, Evelyn, Asa, Eric, Katie, Danny, Josh, Jacob, Matt, Chris, Tessa, Terra, Melinda, and Stephanie; many great grandchildren; two sisters, Naomi (Howard) Steinmetz of Mahnomen, MN, and Edith Kaiser of Detroit Lakes, MN; one brother, Howard Brown of Oklahoma City, OK; brother-in-law, George Poehls of Fargo, ND; and sister-in-law, Betty Lasneski of Alexandria, MN. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James and Earl; sister, Betty Brown Boit; and an infant brother.
