Howard Krossen

Howard Krossen, age 73, of McIntosh, MN, passed away on Sunday, January 29th, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND, surrounded by family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 3rd, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in McIntosh with the Rev. Gordon Syverson officiating. Interment will be in Salem Lutheran Cemetery, McIntosh. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Howard Raymond Krossen was born on January 18, 1944 in Fosston, Minnesota to parents Thorval and Evelyn Tharaldson Krossen. The first years of his life were spent in the Oklee area and he graduated from Oklee High School in 1962. While in high school, Howard was active in band, football, and played drums in local bands. Following high school, he attended college in Crookston and then at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis where he studied x-ray technology. After graduation he accepted his first job at the Hallock Hospital in Hallock, Minnesota. He was united in marriage to Sharon Shoholm on December 26, 1965. After their marriage, Howard worked at a couple of small hospitals before accepting a position at the Fosston Municipal Hospital and First Care Medical Services Hospital in Fosston. He was a respected x-ray technician there for the next 36 years. After his tenure in Fosston, Howard was employed as a temporary technician in Brainerd, Detroit Lakes, and in Iowa. They lived in Aitkin, Minnesota, while he worked at the Riverwood Healthcare Center Hospital until 2005 when health related issues forced him to retire. At that time they returned home to McIntosh. Howard enjoyed art his entire life. As the years passed he grew into a wonderful artist, concentrating on oil painting. His works are truly treasured by his family. Over the years, he also enjoyed gardening and loved bowhunting with his son, Mark. Most of all though, Howard cherished the time that he could spend with his family, especially his grandsons, Ryan and Cody. He was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church in McIntosh for many years until its closing and he was currently a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in McIntosh. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Sharon, of McIntosh; his son, Mark (Karen) of Bemidji, MN; two grandsons, Ryan and Cody; and special friends of the family, Carol Anne Reese of McIntosh, June Nesvold of Fosston, and Marge Olson of Annandale, MN; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Kenneth and Richard; and special friend of the family, Marlan Olson.
