Interment will be in Hope Lutheran Cemetery at a later date. Military honors will be provided by the Spring Lake VFW Post #2759 of Lengby and the National Guard Honors Team.

Veryl Bakken was born July 18, 1937, to parents Arnold and Jennie (Green) Bakken.
He was baptized in the Lutheran Faith and attended School in Fosston MN. Veryl enlisted in the United States Air Force and served active duty from 1955-1958, after which he returned to his home town of Fosston, MN.

He was united in marriage to Inez Rude December 16, 1961, at Hope Lutheran Church. They had 3 children, Blake, Debbie and Randy.

Veryl started his truck driving career with Reichert Truck Lines of Fosston. In 1966 Reichert opened a terminal in Minneapolis and Veryl became terminal manager and moved his family to New Brighton, MN. He joined the teamsters union local 120 in 1970 and drove for Hunt Truck Lines where he was awarded the safe driving award. Veryl retired in 1996. Living close to his sons family in Cedar, MN, he enjoyed many good years making memories that last a lifetime. He loved taking care of his grandsons from time to time, while their parents worked doing summer months. Inez never had to cook many supper’s; Veryl liked cooking and made the suppers.

He enjoyed spending time with his Grandsons and granddaughter watching them grow up way to fast. He also had a grand dog that walked over after his grandsons went to school, to be given treats and be his buddy for the day. He would leave like clockwork to go back home for their return from school. Every now and then Veryl took his grandsons for breakfast before school and drove them to school. He was an avid sports fan, especially football, which he loved playing in his school days. He enjoyed watching his grandsons participate in many school sports, meeting friends on the Fosston high school grounds ice skating arena with a warming shack, watching old westerns, listening to western songs, having stories to tell, sitting on the deck watching nature, and keeping his lawn groomed. In 2003, Inez retired and they moved back to the surrounding area where they grew up, having over 30 years of trucking that he never gave up. He continued driving for Larry Lenes and Charles Balstad Farm’s till the fall of 2018.

He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, East Polk Heritage Center, Lengby Improvement Club, and a life-time member of the Lengby VFW Post #2759, where he enjoyed socializing with friends and playing Whist. He enjoyed deer hunting with his sons and grandsons and his family’s annual week vacation for 32 years at Breezy Point Resort each may for opening fishing.
