Ancel "Speed" Benson, age 71, of Mentor, Minnesota passed away on Tuesday, January 23rd at his home in Mentor. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday (January 27th) at Faith Lutheran Church in Mentor with the Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating. Interment will be in First English Lutheran Cemetery, rural Mentor. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Friday (January 26th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Erskine. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine. Family condolences may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com.Ancel Wallace Benson was born on April 20, 1935 in Mentor, Minnesota to parents Bennie R. and Nora (Gudmundson) Benson. He was baptized at First English Lutheran Church and grew up and attended school in Mentor. He was united in marriage to Diane Carole Anderson on January 21, 1961 in Crookston, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they made their home in Mentor. To this union one son, Jerry, was born.Speed was self employed as a truck driver until he began employment with Anderson Seed Company in rural Mentor. He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Mentor all of his adult life. He liked to listen to and play country music. He also loved fishing, hunting and has been a collector of tractors and tractor models for many years.Ancel "Speed" Benson passed away peacefully at his home in Mentor with his family at his side on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at the age of 71 years, nine months and 3 days.Survivors include his wife, Diane of Mentor; one son, Jerry (Donna) of Colorado Springs, CO; five siblings, Willard (Sharon) of Mentor, Carol (Harley) Kjos of Mentor, Gordon (Deanne) of Thief River Falls, MN, Eugene (Cindy) of Mentor, and Nick (Cathie) of Hopkins, MN; two brothers-in-law, Wyman Anderson of Mentor and his friend, Cheryl Koehnen of Woodbury, MN., and Wayne (Mary) Anderson of Stoughton, WI and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Charlotte Broadwell; two brothers, Richard and Reuben; Diane's parents, Laverne and Otto; and brother-in-law, Rodney.Honorary Pallbearers will be "Everyone at Anderson Seed Company"Active Pallbearers will be Perry Benson, Jeff Benson, Tim Benson, Chad Benson, Brad Benson, and John Moore.
