Audrey Simmons

Audrey Simmons, age 52, of rural Erskine, MN passed away on Tuesday, September 18th at her residence. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday (September 21st) at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fosston, MN with Father Dave Super presiding. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Thursday (September 20th) and for one hour prior to the service on Friday morning. All visitation will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fosston. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Audrey Gayle Curfman was born on November 26, 1959 in Fosston, Minnesota to parents Glenn and Mary (Baustian) Curfman Motl. She graduated from Fisher High School in Fisher, Minnesota in 1978. While in high school, Audrey was part of the speech team and earned numerous trips to the State speech tournament.Audrey attended Northland Community College in East Grand Forks to be a clinical technician. She worked in Crookston at the Midwest Vision Center for several years. She had various jobs over the years working at REM with disabled adults, which she really enjoyed. She most recently earned a degree from Rasmussen College as a medical transcriptionist, in 2008.Audrey married Rick Simmons on August 6, 1983 in Fisher. Audrey had three sons, David, Darren and Dustin, who she dedicated her life to raising. She also had a step-daughter, Jodi Simpkins.She spent many summers at the lake taking care of Dusty's special needs. She loved being a mother and spending time with family at the lake fishing and pontooning. She also loved to have any children with special needs to come to the lake to enjoy the outdoors. She spent recent years with her grandchildren Henry, Owen and Jason, also at the lake or family gatherings. Audrey had a special gift of wanting to help others be happy. She was an avid collector of cookie jars which she enjoyed very much.Audrey Simmons passed away on September 18, 2012 at her home on Lake Sarah near Erskine, Minnesota at the age of 52 years.She is survived by her husband, Rick of Erskine, MN; sons, David (Jennifer) Simmons of West Fargo, ND, and Darren (Sarah) Simmons of Fosston, MN; step-daughter, Jodi Simpkins; three grandchildren, Henry and Owen Simmons of West Fargo and Jason Winter of Fosston; seven siblings, Alice (Beans) Wander, Tim (Donna) Curfman, Ted (Jan) Curfman, Theresa (Marvin) Stark, Sharol (Rick) Mason, Paul (Deb) Curfman, and Evelyn (Maurus) Karboviak.; three brothers-in-law, Rich (Raenelle) Simmons, Buck (Pam) Simmons, and Mark (Bonnie) Simmons; and one sister-in-law, Rose Simmons. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her son, Dusty in 2008; her mother, Mary Motl in 2011; father, Glenn Curfman in 1967; step-father, Everett Motl in 1996; grandparents, Alfred and Sophie Curfman and John and Theresa Baustian; nephew, JR Simmons; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
