November 26, 1939 — March 21, 2019

Bennett Hamre, age 79, of Erskine, MN, passed away on Thursday, March 21st, at Essentia Health Hospital in Fosston, MN. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 26th, at Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine with the Rev. Scott Baker officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, rural Erskine, at a later date. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Monday, March 25th, at the Carlin Funeral Home in Erskine. Family will also greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Bennett Ray Hamre was born on November 26, 1939 in Erskine, Minnesota to parents Bennie and Mabel Hamre. He was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church and graduated from Erskine High School in 1957. Bennett was united in marriage to Janet Johnson of McIntosh on August 6, 1960. To this union, four children were born, Shawn, Kent, Heidi and Mandi. Bennett worked several jobs during his life. He owned and operated Bennett's Mobil then Standard Station for many years which he sold and then worked for Leonard Rydell. He and Shawn then started a fish and bait business for several years. Bennett ended up hauling tilapia fish to Toronto every week until he retired. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine, the Erskine Commercial Club, Erskine Fire Department, and was Mayor for several years. When he was younger, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, but his heart put a stop to that. He really enjoyed the Saturday night cards with the Strands. He loved his flowers every summer and, years ago, he had a huge garden. He also enjoyed feeding and watching the birds and deer in the yard.He was very proud of his children and grandchildren and all they accomplished. He followed the kids and grandkids sports games. He even got so he liked hockey, even though we sat all wrapped up in blankets.Bennett was the kindest, most loving man in the world. He was the best husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend. He will truly be missed. Survivors include his wife and best friend, Janet, of Erskine; four children, Shawn (Ann) of Bismarck, ND, Kent (Angie) of Albertville, MN, Heidi (Eddie) Gose of Ventura, CA, and Mandi (Ronnie) Lund of Thief River Falls, MN; grandchildren, Sara (Tog) Anderson, Troy Hamre, Brooke Hamre, Tori Hamre, Anthony Gose, Elizabeth Gose, Braydin Lund, and Keegan Lund; great grandchildren, Kenley, Jessa, and Brea Anderson; one brother, Don (Bev) Hamre of Erskine; two sisters, Marlys (Eivind) Lindseth of Page, ND and Elaine Olson of Cormorant, MN; and two sisters-in-law, Clara Hamre of Erskine and Shirley Hamre of Wadena, MN. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.He was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie and Mabel Hamre; mother and father-in-law, Clifford and Lorene Johnson; and brothers, Eugene, Byron, Leroy, and Sam; and sisters-in-law, Milly Hamre and Amy Hamre; and brother-in-law, Mitch Olson.
