Bernice Linda Lou Syverson was born on June 6, 1938, in Hill River Township, Minnesota to parents Theodore and Linda (Christianson) Syverson. She was baptized and confirmed at Vernes Lutheran Church, rural McIntosh. She attended school at the Lindsay School in Hill River Township and graduated from McIntosh High School in 1956. After high school, Bernice worked for a while at St. Luke’s Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota.

Bernice was united in marriage to Melford Jerome Voxland on July 22, 1961, at Vernes Lutheran Church. She was active with Jerome in the dairy farm operation in Lessor Township where they raised their three children. They retired from dairy farming in December of 1996. Bernice was involved in Farm Bureau and was honored for 25 years of service.

Jerome and Bernice were members of Trinity Lutheran Church, rural McIntosh. She was a Sunday School teacher and active in the WMF.

She enjoyed taking care of her lawn, flowers, sewing, cooking and baking. She was known for making apple pies in the fall and white cake with lemon filling and fluffy white frosting for birthdays.

She loved her grandchildren very much. She and Jerome enjoyed following all of their activities throughout their school years. Also, Bernice taught them to sew (and made quilts with them); and also made photo albums for each grandchild.

After Jerome’s passing on February 22, 2017, she remained on the farm and continued to keep up with the happenings on the farm. She entered McIntosh Senior Living in December of 2021, due to a decline in health following cancer treatments.
