Betty Von Holdt, age 88, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Saturday, December 9th, at her home in Fosston. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 15th, at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Peter Lurvey officiating. Interment will be in Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Fosston. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Betty Lou Bakken was born on May 14, 1935, in Fosston, Minnesota to parents Arnold and Jennie (Green) Bakken. She grew up near Fosston and attended Fosston schools.
She was united in marriage to George Von Holdt on November 26, 1955, at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston. To this marriage, two children were born, Nancy and Perry. When they were first married, George and Betty lived in Fosston briefly before moving to Fertile, Minnesota where they raised their family.
Betty worked as a waitress at several restaurants, including the Town and Country Café in Fertile. She also did some potato picking and painting and wallpapering in the Fertile area. They returned to Fosston in the late 1990’s. George passed away on April 21, 2001. Betty has continued to be at home in Fosston.
She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church. She liked playing Bingo and cards and going to the Casino for shows. She was a person that always needed to be busy. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Von Holdt of California; son, Perry Von Holdt of Rogers, MN; two grandchildren, Ashley and Jessica Von Holdt; six great grandchildren, Ahzier, Dahlia, Sage, Arie, Isla and Violet; one brother, Frank Bakken of Fosston; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents; one sister, Marilyn Roragen; and four brothers, Willard, Virgil, Delmar, and Veryl.
