Obituary

Bradley Kolden, age 63, a life-long resident of Erskine, MN, passed away unexpectedly at the farm where he was born on Sunday, November 16th. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 13th, at the Carlin Funeral Home in Erskine with the Rev. Pam Thorson officiating. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Saturday (December 13th) at the funeral home. Arrangements are with Carlin Family Funeral Service of Erskine and messages of condolence may be shared at www.carlinfuneral.com.

Brad, the son of Randolph and Mildred (Matson) Kolden, was born on May 17, 1962 in Fosston, MN. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He graduated from Erskine High School in 1980.

From his earliest childhood, Brad was shaped by the rhythms of the land. He devoted himself to raising goats, tending them with patience, skill, and deep responsibility. Those who knew him understood that his herd was not just his livelihood—it was part of his heart. He found profound meaning in the early mornings, the changing seasons, and the honest work that farm life demands.

Animals were Brad's closest companions, and he loved them fiercely. His dogs were constant shadows at his heels, loyal partners in both work and rest. His cat—independent yet affectionate on her own terms—completed the small circle of creatures who shared his home and his days.

Though he lived quietly, Brad's life was rich with friendships. He built a small but enduring circle of friends who shared his values, his humor, and his love of the outdoors. Many of his happiest days were spent alongside these friends in the woods or on the water. An avid hunter and fisherman, he found peace in the stillness of a deer stand and joy in wetting a line. To Brad, these moments were special—a way of connecting with nature, with friends, and with something larger than himself.

Neighbors and friends will remember him as a man of simple kindnesses, steady friendship, and an authenticity that comes only from a life lived close to the earth. His legacy lives on in the people he touched, the land he nurtured, and the quiet companionship he offered to all who knew him.

Brad is survived by his sister and brother, Shirley (Myles) Bakken and Mike Kolden, many nieces, nephews and cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Donna Anderson and brother Milton (Pete) Kolden.

May he rest in peace, surrounded—now as always—by the land he loved.
