Carolyn Nelson, age 81, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Sunday, October 12th, at Essentia Hospital in Fosston. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 23rd, at Calvary Free Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Mark Richardson officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Thursday (October 23rd) at the church. Carolyn Mae Berg was born on November 11, 1943, in Bemidji, Minnesota to parents Louis and Vivian (Butler) Berg. She grew up near Bemidji and graduated from Bemidji High School in 1961. Following graduation, she attended Bemidji State Teacher’s College (Bemidji State University), receiving her bachelor’s degree in 1965. She then taught in the Twin Cities for a year before moving to Fosston. Carolyn taught in the special education department at Magelssen Elementary School in Fosston for 32 years until her retirement.
Carolyn was united in marriage to Adolph Nelson on July 23, 1994, at Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine, Minnesota. Carolyn and Adolph made their home in Fosston. She had been a resident of Essentia First Care Living Center until the time of her death.
Carolyn was a member of Calvary Free Lutheran Church in Fosston. She enjoyed painting (especially on plates) and animals. Dogs especially held a special place in her heart.
Survivors include her husband of 31 years, Adolph, of Fosston; one sister, Joanne Olson of Bemidji, MN; brother, Larry (Gail) Berg of New Hope, MN; nieces, Sidne Larson and her children, Cliff and Cleo, and Amanda (Vince) and their daughter, Kathleen; nephew, Mitchell (Jane) Berg; sister-in-law, Gladys Fladhammer of Fertile, MN; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins on the Nelson side of the family; and special friend, Nancy Hegland of Fosston.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother-in-law, Floyd Olson.
