D. Duane Monson, age 85, of Mentor, MN and Erskine, MN, passed away on Tuesday, January 16th, at Essentia Health Hospital in Fosston. A memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 20th, at the Carlin Funeral Home in Erskine. Arrangements are with the Carlin Funeral Home of Erskine and messages of condolence may be sent at www.carlinfuneral.com.Donald Duane Monson was born on August 5, 1932 to parents Palmer and Hazel (Lee) Monson, in Hatton, North Dakota on a farm. He grew up in Hatton until fall of 1939 when the family moved to a rural farm in Mentor, Minnesota. He attended school in Mentor and graduated in 1951. Duane was in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1956 and was stationed at the South Pole in the Operation Deep Freeze 1. He then became a licensed electrician and was recognized as having over 50 years in the International Brotherhood of electrical workers. He retired in 1994. Duane enjoyed both working and hunting and fishing adventures.Duane was blessed with his one and only daughter later in his life, Lisa Wallace and her husband Dean of New Rockford, North Dakota. She then blessed him with 3 grandchildren: Tori Sannes, Carver Sannes, and Joshua Hegre. He was so proud of them. He enjoyed teaching them everything they needed to know about guns and hunting and fishing. Duane passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Essentia Hospital in Fosston at the age of 85 years.Duane was oldest of 5 boys. His brother David and Carolyn Monson of Maple Bay, MN; Herb and Joanna Monson of Spring Lake Park, MN; Lyle Monson of Pequot Lakes, Mn amd the late Richard Monson of Fort Worth, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one granddaughter.
