David Salvhus

David Salvhus, age 73, of McIntosh, MN, passed away on Monday, March 9th, at McIntosh Senior Living. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 14th, at Mount Carmel Free Lutheran Church in McIntosh with the Rev. Karl Anderson officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Saturday morning at the church. David LeRoy Salvhus was born on October 20, 1946 in Fosston, Minnesota to parents Andrew and Minnie (Dyrdahl) Salvhus. He grew up in Lessor Township on the Salvhus home farm. He attended McIntosh High School, graduating in the class of 1964. Following high school, David worked on the missile silos in North Dakota, on the Iron Range, and then for a natural gas company in Thief River Falls. David was united in marriage to Sandra Fjerstad on October 21, 1967 at Mount Carmel Free Lutheran Church in McIntosh. They lived in Thief River Falls where David continued to work at the gas company. He then was employed by the Thief River Falls Fire Department until his retirement. In addition to serving as a firefighter, he did carpenter/home construction work for Peterson Lumber. In 2000, he returned to his roots on the Salvhus family home place and built a retirement home. He and Sandy have lived there since that time. He was a member of Mount Carmel Free Lutheran Church. David loved gardening and enjoyed giving away the fruits of his vegetable garden labor. He also enjoyed hunting and especially loved spending time with his family. He will be dearly missed. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Sandy, of McIntosh; one son, Scott Salvhus of McIntosh; three grandchildren, Katie (Ruben), Jonah, and Isaac; and one great granddaughter, Beatrice; one brother, Dan (Mary) Salvhus of McIntosh; brother-in-law, Glen Brua of McIntosh; sister-in-law, Lori Salvhus of Ada, MN; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and three siblings, Arvid Salvhus, Joanne Brua, and Marilyn (Leighton) Hamre.
