Dennis Eugene Sistad, age 87 of Fosston, MN, passed away on Thursday, January 1st, at Cornerstone Residence with the love of his life, Ilene, near his side. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7th, at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Peter Lurvey officiating. Interment will be in Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Fosston. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Tuesday, January 6th, at the Carlin Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Military honors will be provided by the National Guard Honors Team. Arrangements are with Carlin Family Funeral Service of Fosston and messages of condolence may be shared at www.carlinfuneral.com. Memorials are preferred to Hope Lutheran Church.
Dennis was born on March 2, 1938. in Grygla, Minnesota. Dennis was the 3rd child of Marvin and Alice Sistad. He was baptized in Buxton, ND on October 3, 1938, and confirmed at Grygla. He graduated from Goodridge High School in 1956. Dennis served as an engineer in the United States Army from 1958-1960. On July 29, 1961, Dennis and Ilene Amy Cleaveland were united in marriage. Dennis worked most of his career as an iron worker while also farming alongside his wife near Fosston.
Dennis enjoyed deer hunting, raising cattle, sheep and horses, and adopting miscellaneous cats and dogs over the years. He will be remembered as the absolute best father, grandfather, father in-law, and friend. He enjoyed the radio Sunday Polka Party, the Minnesota Twins, and was known for his Lutheran goodbyes.
Dennis was strong in his faith and loved his Hope Lutheran Church family. Dennis and Ilene cherished time with close and extended family and friends, rarely missing a wedding, funeral, anniversary, or reunion. They loved visitors, expected or not, and always had coffee on and room at the table.
He is survived by his Ilene, his loving wife of over 64 years, daughter-in-law Mary Sistad, son Paul (Dawn) Sistad, Teresa (Kim) Hash, daughter Brenda (Jay) Gerner; grandchildren, Seth (fiancée Kylie Theisen) Sistad, Ryan Sistad, Maddy (Logan) Hendrickson, Grace (Chad) Holstein, Amanda Hash, Adam and David Gerner. Dennis was also blessed with five great-grandchildren, Max, Owen, Ivy, Ilsa, and Sloane. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Gloria Sistad, sister Wanda, brothers Gene (Kay), Roger (Dianne), Richard, Gary (Linda), Keith (Ruby) and many nieces and nephews.
Dennis was preceded in death by an infant daughter and son Brad, parents Marvin and Alice, in-laws Earl and Agnes, brothers Wayne and Marlyn, sister-in-law Karlyn, and brother-in-law Owen.
