Derick Tollefson, age 34, of Lengby, MN, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, September 17th, at his home. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 26th, at Bethel Assembly Church in Fosston with Pastor Seth Johnson officiating. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. In honor of Derick, we invite guests to wear Minnesota Vikings clothing or camouflage, two things he really enjoyed. The service will be live-streamed and available on the Carlin website.

Derick Robin Tollefson was born on June 22, 1992, in Fosston, Minnesota to William and Tammie (Schabacker) Tollefson. He began his life in Lengby and attended Fosston Schools through the ninth grade. He started the tenth grade while living in Twin Valley, graduating from Norman County East High School in 2010. While in high school, Derick played football, basketball and baseball.

After high school, Derick started work with Gordon Construction, where he was still employed, and where he had many good friends and coworkers.

Derick was united in marriage to Cory Ulrich on January 9, 2016, at Elim Lutheran Brethren Church in Clearbrook. After their marriage, they lived and started their family near Lengby.

Derick had many interests in life. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, playing cards, curling, hanging out with friends (sometimes with a Budweiser beer), and watching Vikings football with family and friends. Most of all, he loved being with his family and spending time with his kids. They meant everything to him.

Derick will also be remembered for his big smile. He loved to laugh and joke around. Derick was also the kind of person that was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Cory, and their four children, Reed (13), Chandler (9), Leddie (7), and Camden (4), all at home in Lengby; his parents, Bill (Sue) Tollefson of Naytahwaush, MN and Tammie Johnson of Lengby; one brother, Joseph (Amy) Tollefson of Wahpeton, ND; grandparents, Walter and Bernice Schabacker of Bejou, MN; step-brother, Alex Winter of Thief River Falls, MN; step-sisters, Brittany Winter (Kenny) of Ada, MN, Erica Winter (Justin Haugen) of Minneapolis, and Alesia (Adam) Arel of Eau Claire, WI; and his father and mother-in-law, Doug and Jackie Ulrich of Bagley, MN.

Also surviving are brothers and sisters-in-law, Emily (Ryan) Smith of Fairbanks, AK, Meghan (Guy) Lene of Delta Junction, AK, Evie (Richie) Sanford of Fosston, Sadie (Adam) Kortan of Clearbrook, MN, and Annie (Shane) Huschle of Zerkel, MN. and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Oliver and Verla Tollefson; uncle, Sid Tollefson; stepfather, Duane “Notch” Johnson; aunt, Kay Adler; and uncle, Norman Hillstad.
