Donald Beaumont, age 87, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Wednesday (September 19th) at First Care Hospital in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday (September 24th) at Calvary Free Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Alan Arneson officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Bemidji, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Sunday (September 23rd) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Flag presentation will be provided by the Tangen-Walstrom American Legion Post #114 of Fosston and the arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston. Online guestbook is available at www.carlinhoialmen.com.Donald William Beaumont was born on April 14, 1920 in Bemidji, Minnesota to parents Frank and Paula (Helm) Beaumont. He grew up in Bemidji and graduated from Bemidji High School in 1939. Following high school, he attended Bemidji State Teacher's College for two years.Don entered the United States Navy on March 7, 1942 and was stationed in Jacksonville, Florida during World War II. He was united in marriage to Marvel Hall on September 26, 1944. Don received his honorable discharge in October of 1945 and he and Marvel returned to Bemidji. Don then completed his education at Bemidji State, graduating in the Spring of 1947 with a BA degree in Education. After his graduation, they moved to Fosston and Don began his teaching career at Fosston High School as the Industrial Arts teacher. He completed his Master's Degree in Education in 1960. He continued to teach at Fosston until his retirement in 1985 after 38 years of dedicated service to the district. For the first five years of his retirement, Don substitute taught in Fosston and in other nearby schools. He and Marvel have continued to live in Fosston.He was a member of Calvary Free Lutheran Church in Fosston, the Tangen-Walstrom American Legion Post #114 of Fosston and had been active throughout his career in various teaching organizations. Don enjoyed spending time with his friends and family and lending a helping hand to anyone. He enjoyed spending time at the lake, fishing (especially with his daughter, Patricia), deer hunting, Monday card club at the Embassy Center, playing cribbage with Bill Woods, maple syruping, making dill pickles and fish, gardening and picking potatoes to give to friends. His years teaching in Fosston were special to him and he always enjoyed hearing from his former students. Don always looked for the best in each and every student. He will be dearly missed by his family, the community, and all who knew him as a colleague, former student or friend.Don passed away on Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at First Care Hospital in Fosston at the age of 87 years, five months and five days.He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 63 years, Marvel of Fosston; one daughter, Patricia (Dennis) Taylor of Annandale, MN; two granddaughters, Kelley (J.P.) Kilanowski of St. Joseph, MN, and Jill (Erick) Bates of Brooklyn Center, MN; two grandsons, Brent Taylor of Annandale, MN, and Jeff (Lisa) Beaumont of Lakeville, MN; two great granddaughters, Camille and Isabella Bates; one brother, Charles (Angela) Beaumont of Little Falls, MN; brothers-in-law, Dale (Rose) Hall of Bemidji, MN, and Jess (Becky) Hall of Zimmerman, MN; sisters-in-law, Betty Blankman of International Falls, MN, Helen (Luverne) Nordlund of Clearbrook, MN, and Shirley Anderson of International Falls, MN. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.He was preceded in death by his son, Bruce in 1998; his parents; two sisters, Sadie and Fran; and one brother, Frank.Honorary Pallbearers will be all relatives and friendsActive Pallbearers will be Brent Taylor, Jeff Beaumont, Loren Dryburgh, Bill Woods, Nordin Brinkman, and Richard Miller.
