Donna “Jean” Halland Frigstad, age 89, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Wednesday, September 10th, at Essentia Hospital in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 20th, at Calvary Free Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Mark Richardson officiating. Interment will be in Kingo Lutheran Cemetery, Fosston. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Donna Jean Welter was born on January 7, 1936, in Plentywood, Montana. She was raised by her father, Thomas, and her stepmother, Marge. She grew up and attended school in Plentywood. She married Allen Halland. The couple lived in Plentywood until moving to Fosston where they settled to raise their four children.
Jean worked in the dietary department at the Fosston Municipal Hospital and also owned the Hamburger Hut in Fosston for several years. She later married Ordell Frigstad. After their marriage, they lived in Rolette, North Dakota and then in Park Rapids, Minnesota. She worked in the dietary department in Rolette and was head of the department in Park Rapids until a stroke forced her to retire. At that time they returned to Fosston. Ordell passed away in 2006.
Jean was a hard-working woman who loved to do many things. She was a talented and wonderful seamstress making a lot of her own clothing and sewing dresses for the granddaughters. She loved to play piano, bake and do many crafts.
Jean is survived by her children, Tom Halland of Thief River Falls, MN, Mark (LeAnn) Halland of Crookston, MN, and Debi Halland of Fosston, MN; 11 grandchildren, Tania (Shane) Grove, Brianna Kaupang, Jeff (Angie) Halland, Jeremy Halland, Robert (Julie) Halland, Nichole Halland, Jason Halland, Trista Halland, Robin Anderson, Whitney Halland, and Paige (Jordan) Prazak; 35 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren; brother, Jay Welter of Plentywood, MT; sister, Joyce Degasis of Phoenix, AZ; sister-in-law Delores Welter of Havre, MT and honorary son, Jim (Cindy) Nelson of Thief River Falls, MN; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Gay Otness in 2021; grandson, Garret Halland in 2020; her parents; and brothers, Jack, Roy and James Welter.
