Doug Evje, age 57, of Thief River Falls, MN, passed away on Wednesday (June 11th) at the Cornerstone Nursing Home in Bagley, MN. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday (June 17th) at Sand Valley Lutheran Church in Trail, MN with Michael Sletto officiating. Interment will be in Sand Valley Lutheran Cemetery, Trail. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Military honors will be provided by the Trail V.F.W. Post #6426 .Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and sympathy messages may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com.Douglas Mark Evje was born December 22, 1950 in Fosston, Minnesota to Doris Moy Evje and the late Lester Evje. He was baptized and confirmed at Sand Valley Church in Trail. He attended grade school in Gully and graduated from Gonvick High School in 1968.Following graduation he was employed at the Fosston Potato Plant.In 1970 he enlisted in the Navy and went to boot camp in San Diego, California where he graduated from radar school. From there he was stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii where he joined the crew of the destroyer USS Epperson.The Epperson was a part of the USS Enterprise Battle Group which covered much of the Pacific and Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1974.When he came home he moved to Thief River Falls, Minnesota and took a job at Hydra-Mac. He worked for many years there before accepting a position at Digi-Key, where he worked until he retired in November of 2007 due to illness.Doug passed away at the Cornerstone Nursing Home in Bagley on June 11, 2008 at the age of 57 years under the care of Hospice.He enjoyed reading and listening to music as well as working crossword puzzles. He played softball with the Trail Team from 1977 to 1989 but his real passion in life was for the game of golf. He would play from the day the courses opened until they closed in the fall.He had a special place in his heart for his youngest brother Darren and his nieces Kara, Megan and Caitlin.He is survived by his mother Doris of Gully; a sister Dianne (Bob) Danielson of Bagley; four brothers Dean of Fosston, David of Union City, GA, Daryl of Douglasville, GA and Darren of Gully.One aunt Delores (Cliff) Bertram of Ashby, MN; two uncles Gary Moy of Las Vegas, NV and Donovan Moy of Gully. Also surviving are nieces Kara (Jake) Perry of Kila, MT, Megan (Steve) Clark of Marion, MT and Caitlin Evje of Douglasville, GAGreat nieces Madison and Abigail Clark and Lexi Perry. Many cousins also survive.He was preceded in death by his father, Lester; grandparents John and Alma Evje and John and Hazel Moy; three uncles John Evje, Jr., Russell Evje and Ordell Moy.
