Eleanore Olson

Eleanore Olson, age 87, of Erskine, MN, passed away on Saturday (September 8th) at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday (September 12th) at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center Chapel in Erskine with the Rev. Lois Ball officiating. Interment will be in Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Fosston . Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the nursing home chapel. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine.Eleanore Olson was born on August 3, 1920 to Norwegian immigrants Nels and Emma (Overland) Anderson on a farm in Sletten Township.She attended country school in the day when there were no buses and her older brothers often brought her to school by horse and wagon or sleigh. Her older sister, Gladys, was her teacher for a time. In high school she roomed in McIntosh going home only at Christmas and during the summer. She graduated in 1937 at age sixteen. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Gosen church.After graduation Eleanore worked at Lundmark's Café in Fosston. On April 2, 1942 she married Ward (Bud) Olson. For a time, when Bud was in the Army during World War II, Eleanore and Julie lived at Fort Leonard Wood traveling back and forth by train. After the war Bud and Eleanore made their home in Fosston and were married 46 years before his death in 1988. Eleanore moved to Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine in 2002.Eleanore was a member of Hope and Kingo Churches and was an active member in "circle" and taught Friday school. She was a member of PTA for 30 years and also a den mother for Cub Scouts. She was an antique collector and restored many antique frames. Her house was a reflection of her decorating talents. She was an excellent cook and baker. She scrapbooked before it became a fad. Eleanore spoke fluent Norwegian and was proud of her Norwegian heritage.Eleanor was preceded in death by an infant son Scott Anders, her husband Ward, sister Gladys Gran, and brothers, Albert and Helmer.She is survived by four children, Julie (Dean) Fermenick of Woodbury, MN, Neal "Buff" of Fargo, ND, Tammy (Rick) Clark of Lengby, MN, and Todd of St. Cloud, MN; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
