Elmer Kastner, age 91, from rural McIntosh, MN passed away on Thursday, May 24th at Riverview Physical Rehabilitation Center in Crookston, MN. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 30th at 11:00 AM at Faith Lutheran Church in Mentor, MN with Pastor Ernest Christensen officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the McIntosh Community Center, and for one hour before the funeral at the church. Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home serving McIntosh is in charge of local arrangements. Funeral services will also be held on Friday, June 1st at 2:00 PM at Zion Lutheran Church at McGrath, MN with Pastor James Sodergren officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the funeral at the church, and interment will be in Holden Cemetery at Isle, MN. The Hamlin-Hansen-Kosloski Funeral Home of Moose Lake, MN is in charge of local arrangements.Elmer August Kastner was born on December 18, 1915 at Lamberton, MN to parents George and Martha (Retzlaff) Kastner. After graduating from the Lamberton High School, he attended Wartburg College in Waverly, IA where he earned his Bachelors Degree. He then began his teaching career, first in South Dakota and then in Minnesota. In 1942, he was drafted into the U.S. Army where he served in the Philippine Islands Campaign and then in the Occupation of Japan in the early post-war months.After his discharge in early 1946 Elmer resumed his teaching career. He soon became a school administrator, as a principle and then as a superintendent. He was superintendent first at East Chain, MN. Then he went on to be superintendent at McGrath, MN for nearly 20 years until that district was dissolved. Elmer and his wife Eleanor (Sehlin) - from Isle, MN, whom he married in 1944- moved to Mentor, MN as school superintendent in 1973 and retired there in 1981. They then moved to rural McIntosh, MN where he resided until his death.On Thursday, May 24, 2007 Elmer Kastner passed away at Riverview Physical Rehabilitation Center in Crookston, MN at the age of 91 years, 5 months, and 6 days.He is survived by his son Allan of rural McIntosh, his brother Armin of Lamberton, his sister Edna Ericksen of Pharr, TX, his brother-in-law Clifford Sehlin of Isle, his brother-in-law Donald Sehlin of Anacortes, WA, and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents George and Martha Kastner of Lamberton, and his wife Eleanor in 1982.
