Elsie Mowitt, age 93, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Sunday (August 18th) at First Care Living Center in Fosston. A memorial service and celebration of her life will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday (September 7th) at the United Methodist Church in Fosston with the Rev. Michelle Miller officiating. Interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery, rural Clearbrook, MN at a later date. A time for greeting family and friends will be held from 4:30 p.m. until the time of the memorial service on Saturday at the church. The Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston assisted the family with arrangements and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Elsie Christine Mowitt was born on December 28, 1919 to parents Otis Carl and Selma Louise (Zuber) Christian in Shep, Texas.She attended school in Littlefield, Texas. In 1941 she moved to Chula Vista, California to work at Rohr Aircraft Defense Plant for seven years.At Rohr she met the love of her life Willard "Bill" Mowitt; they were married and raised two sons in California.After 34 years and following Bill's retirement, they moved to Bagley, Minnesota. Five years after Bill's death, Chris moved to Fosston to be near her son and family.Chris was a fiercely independent woman who maintained her home, drove, and mowed her own yard at the age of 93. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, flowers, enjoying life and dancing.She was a member of the United Methodist Church since the 1940's in Chula Vista, California and presently the United Methodist Church of Fosston.Chris gave freely of her time to her church and was actively involved in the Fosston Embassy "Senior Meals" and clothing departments for many years. In her younger years she was a Den Mother for Cub Scouts in California.Chris departed for Heaven on August 18, 2013 after a brief stay at First Care Living Center in Fosston.Christ leaves to grieve her passing, two sons, Robert (Betty) of Fosston, MN, and Charles (Robin) of Ironwood, MI; four grandchildren, Cheryl, Erica, Jennifer and Nicole; and eight precious great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.
