Gale Larson, age 83, of Erskine, MN, passed away on Monday (March 24th) at First Care Hospital in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday (March 28th) at Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine with the Rev. Timothy Lundeen officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, rural Erskine. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Thursday (March 27th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Erskine. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Military honors will be provided by the Bailey-Throne American Legion Post #596 of Erskine and arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine. Family condolences may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com. Gale Philip Larson was born on May 30, 1924 in Renville, Minnesota to parents Oscar and Irene (Breitkreutz) Larson. He moved with his family to Fosston in 1936 and graduated from Fosston High School in 1942. He entered the United States Army on April 21, 1943. Gale was stationed stateside and in Okinawa, Japan during World War II as a teletype operator. He received his honorable discharge on March 14, 1946 with the rank of Sergeant. Gale was united in marriage to Alice Satran on July 27, 1946 at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston. After their marriage, they lived and worked on his family's mink farm on Cross Lake near Fosston. In 1951, they moved to Erskine and Gale worked with his father at American State Bank. He worked there until his retirement in the early 1970's. He was a long-time and active member of Grace Lutheran Church (Past President), Erskine School Board (Past President), Pioneer Memorial Care Center Board, and the Erskine Chamber of Commerce and City Council.Gale liked hunting, fishing, traveling, telling stories, gardening, farming and caring for his yard. Most of all, he enjoyed the time that he could spend with his family.Gale passed away on Monday, March 24, 2008 at First Care Hospital in Fosston at the age of 83 years.Survivors include his wife of nearly 62 years, Alice, of Erskine; three children, Jerry (Sandy) Larson of Cold Spring, MN, Michael (Charlotte) Larson of Moorhead, MN, and Vicki (Scott) Johnston of Nelson, MN; 7 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Maureen Larson of Grand Forks, ND; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Merle and Roger; and sister-in-law, Priscilla Larson.Honorary Pallbearers will be Cliff Johnson, Art Lee, Don Hamre, Bud Hamre, Bob Vanderwaal, Judy Ness, Alvin Brovold and Leon Trandem.Active Pallbearers will be Jim Lien, Joe Sandberg, Daryl Halvorson, David Hamre, Calvin Kolstad, and Sam Hamre.
