Gilmore "Gil" Storrusten, age 80, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Sunday (September 9th) at First Care Hospital in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday (September 13th) at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Interment will be in Poplar River Cemetery, Fosston. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Wednesday (September 12th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston. Gilmore Henry Storrusten was born on February 21, 1927 in Fosston, Minnesota to parents Paul and Olga (Berge) Storrusten. He grew up near Fosston and attended rural school in Rosebud Township. Gil was united in marriage to Donna Whittmyer on April 23, 1949 at First English Lutheran Church in Fossston. Following their marriage, Gil and Donna raised their family on their farm in Rosebud Township. In addition to farming and raising beef cattle, Gil held other positions during his life. He was a butter maker at the Fosston Creamery and then was the Chief Boiler Engineer at the Simplot Potato Plant in Fosston. He then owned and operated Gil and Gary's Plumbing and Heating with his son, Gary. Gil spent his remaining working years as Chief Boiler Engineer at Land O' Lakes in Fosston, retiring in 1989. Following retirement, Gil worked as a painter and carpenter in the Fosston area.He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston. Gil enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, reading, animals, and the outdoors. He also enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors. Most of all, he loved the time that he spent with his family.Gil passed away on Sunday, September 9, 2007 at First Care Hospital in Fosston at the age of 80 years, six months and 19 days.Gil is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Donna of Fosston; two daughters, Susan Skunes and her husband, Dave of Fosston, and Dianne Olander and her husband, Joel of Bloomington, MN; four grandchildren, Kateri and Lee Skunes, Jamie Olander and Nicole (Bryan) Johnson; daughter-in-law, Sharon Storrusten of Fosston; and brother-in-law, Harvey Whittmyer of Tucson, AZ., and several nieces, nephews and cousins.He was preceded in death by his sons, Douglas and Gary; infant son, Wayne; infant daughter, Catherine; grandson, Joey Olander; his parents; four brothers, Johnny, Eddie, Kenny, and Orvin; and two sisters, Julia and Ann.Pallbearers will be Alvin Olson, Pat Hanlon, Mark Burggraf, Sidney Fjerstad, Douglas Fjerstad and Robert Thompson.
