Gladys was born on November 3,1935 in Fosston, MN to parents Andrew and Selma (Vasend) Haugen. She grew up near Fosston and graduated from Fosston High School in 1954.

While working at the Green Lantern Cafe, Gladys met the love of her life, Harold Dean Vig. Gladys later married Harold on August 30, 1958.  Gladys helped support Harold as he finished his degree at NDSU, they then made Fosston their permanent home.

In 1962, Harold and Gladys decided it was time to expand their family.  Their three children, Kyle, Kevin, and Kathy, were the pride and joy of Gladys’ life.  She was a selfless, nurturing mother and was very dedicated to helping and volunteering with her kids' activities.  Her boys were active in sports, and cheering for them brought her great joy. Later in life, she was a devoted grandmother to four grandchildren.  Hearing about each of their adventures and accomplishments, warmed her heart. She was full of pride as she attended her grandchildren's concerts, plays, performances in church, and sporting events. Gladys was a kind, caring, and compassionate woman who always had her door open and enjoyed welcoming visitors into her home. Anyone who came to visit often got to enjoy her chocolate chip cookies or a piece of her homemade lefse.

Gladys was very active in Kingo Lutheran Church.  Her faith and church community were very important to her.  Many of the most important moments in her life happened at Kingo Church.  In Kingo she was baptized, confirmed, married, watched with pride as her sons were married, and the most blessed occasions were the baptisms of her four grandchildren.  Gladys spent numerous hours volunteering at Kingo.  She taught Friday school, was a member of WELCA, served on the altar committee, helped with funerals, served on servant groups, and she lended a helping hand with the mission quilting.

Traveling had always been a true passion for Gladys.  When her children were little they enjoyed camping and fishing.  She loved taking her boys out west to see the mountains.  Harold and Gladys traveled to numerous places.  Among some of her favorite places were Israel, Ireland, and Europe.

Gladys Ann (Haugen) Vig passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family in the Fosston Hospital on May 12, 2024.

Gladys will be greatly missed. She was an amazing woman and will be missed by her family, friends, and community.
