Glen Vernon Tangen was born on November 14, 1937, in Fosston, Minnesota to parents Edward and Clara (Bjornerud) Tangen, the youngest of 11 children. He was baptized and confirmed at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston. He grew up in Brandsvold Township helping with the farming and continued farming the same land until his retirement in 2016.

Glen graduated from Fosston High School in 1955 and was involved in sports and school activities. In the spring of 1955, Glen enlisted in the United States Navy, serving for three years. He was aboard the USS Lexington aircraft carrier and was an aviation aircraft and hydraulics tester. He received his honorable discharge and returned to Fosston. He began work with Solsten and Anderson Construction Companies. In 1971, he became employed at the Fosston Hospital, working there as head of maintenance for 29 years, retiring in 2000.

Glen was united in marriage to Ione Maanum in 1965 at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston. To this union, one son was born, Brian. They have lived their entire lives in Fosston.

He was a member of Kingo Lutheran Church where he served on various church boards and committees through the years. He was on the Volunteer Fire Department in Fosston for 20 years, serving for three years as Fire Chief.

Glen was born with a gift he shared with many, being able to fix anything from a kitchen appliance to machinery, and he loved it. The greatest joy for Glen was his son, Brian, enjoying all sports and activities together whether it was fishing, bowling, curling, golfing, camping, or deer hunting and the deer camp. He later enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities rarely missing any and making many new friends along the way. Glen also enjoyed making wine with his four buddies, officially called “Five Guys Winery”, enjoyed by many.

Glen is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ione, of Fosston; one son, Brian (Brenda) of Frazee, MN; grandchildren, McKinzie (Brady) Solum of Barnesville, MN and Matthew Tangen of Fargo, ND; great grandchildren, Adley and Asher Solum; sisters-in-law, DeAnne Klemmetson of Fosston, Lois (Dave) Bratton of Colorado, and Amy Acampos of Moorhead, MN and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Kenneth, Wilmer, Leslie, Orville, Marvis and Roger; sisters, Doris Sorgaard, Alice Bergstrom, Marion Larson, and Elaine Stone; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
