Hatsue (Kina) Rotness

September 20, 1930 — December 5, 2022

Hatsue (Kina) Rotness, Age 92, of Okinawa, Japan, passed away at her home in Seattle, Washington on December 5, 2022, due to natural causes while surrounded by loving family. Arrangements are with Carlin Family Funeral Service of Fosston and messages of condolence may be shared at www.carlinfuneral.com.

Hatsue was born September 20, 1930, in Lima, Peru, the daughter of Tokue and Toyo Kina.

Hatsue married Kenneth Rotness on December 15, 1960, with a Consulate General officiating. They were happily married for 41 years until Kenneth’s passing on September 8, 2001. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, devoting her entire life to taking care of her family, and always making sure that everyone was happy and very well fed.

Hatsue enjoyed watching television shows. Some of her favorites were on the TV Japan channel, and shows included variety music & singing, Sumo Wrestling, as well as Japanese dramas. She also never missed a single episode of The Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. When discovering YouTube, she discovered Japanese street music and especially enjoyed the Tokyo Accordion Band.

Hatsue also enjoyed other pastimes such as crocheting and making kabuki dolls, by hand. She liked playing Japanese card games with her friends in Okinawa, like hanafuda. Additionally, she also enjoyed Pachinko and Slot Machines. The bright lights and happy sounds, with the occasional big payout, would bring her joy any time she would go.

Hatsue had a smile and laugh that would always light up an entire room, and always enjoyed the company of her family, cherishing every moment that she would be blessed with.

Remaining to cherish Hatsue’s memory are her children, Etsuko Kina, Duane Rotness, Tommy Rotness, Debbie Lee, and Keiko Katsuren; her grandchildren, Jeffrey Rotness, Stephanie Joan Scheiderer, Ricky Harper, Ryan Lee, Nathan Lee, Kenji Katsuren, and Takefumi Katsuren; great-grandchildren, Hailey Hanna Scheiderer, Sophia Scheiderer, Autumn Scheiderer, Rylan Harper, and many other family members.

Preceding Hatsue in death are spouse, Kenneth Rotness; parents, Tokue and Toyo Kina.
