Hazel Germain

Hazel St. Germain, age 87, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Friday (May 11th) at the Midway Care Center in Fosston. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday (May 16th) at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Interment will be in Hope Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may greet the family for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston. Sympathy messages may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com.Hazel Bertin Ostgarden was born on September 13, 1919 in Gonvick, Minnesota to parents Herman and Betsy (Tuft) Ostgarden. She grew up in the Gonvick/Trail area and attended rural school in Hill River Township. She was united in marriage to Irwin St. Germain on October 24, 1938. After their marriage, they lived for a short time in Oklee, Minnesota before settling in Fosston. In addition to caring for her children, Hazel worked for many years at the Cozy Corner Café in Fosston. Irwin passed away in October of 1962. She continued to live at home in Fosston until 2005 when she entered the Midway Care Center. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston. During her life, Hazel enjoyed canning, baking and gardening.Hazel passed away on Friday, May 11, 2007 at the Midway Care Center in Fosston at the age of 87 years, seven months and 28 days.Survivors include her children, Marvin (Marie) of Minneapolis, MN, Jerry of Fosston, Mary Blevins of Fosston, Gloria (Andy) Jacobson of Aurora, MN, and Glen (Karen) of Long Prairie, MN; 14 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; one brother, Clarence (Lois) Ostgarden of Fosston; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sisters, Henrietta Svedahl, Mabel Nelson, and Irene Rud; brothers, Alvin and Ernie Ostgarden; grandson, Mark St. Germain; and son-in-law, Melford Curfman.
