She was born on August 5, 1935, at the family farm near McIntosh, Minnesota, to Peter and Cora Christenson.

Hazel grew up in the McIntosh-Winger area where she attended Bethel Church and country school in rural Winger. She later graduated from McIntosh High School. From a young age, Hazel carried with her the strong values of faith, hard work, family, and community that would guide her throughout her life.

Over the years, Hazel worked at many places throughout the area and became a familiar and friendly face to countless people. Her work included time at Clem’s Café, Vern’s Red Owl, Larson’s Mink Farm, as a nurse’s aide at Fosston Hospital, as a librarian aide at Fosston High School, and later as a para and participant in the Grandparent Program at Fosston Elementary School. Hazel took pride in helping others and formed lasting friendships everywhere she worked.

Service to her community was very important to Hazel. She volunteered faithfully with the Fosston Hospital Auxiliary, participated in the Cancer Society Walk for Life, and was active in the American Legion Auxiliary. Her willingness to serve reflected her caring heart and deep compassion for others.

Hazel was united in marriage to Sidney Trogstad, and together they built a life centered on faith, family, and community. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose strength and determination were admired by all who knew her. Hazel’s strong moral compass, faith in God, and genuine kindness left a lasting impression on family and friends alike.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Cora Christenson; her brother, Marvin Christenson; and her husband, Sidney Trogstad.

Hazel is lovingly survived by her Sister, Elmyra along with Hazel’s Sons, Douglas Trogstad (Marilyne), Gary Trogstad (Lori), and Larry Trogstad (Kim); and by her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Alex Trogstad (Devanne), Fosston, Leif and Tobias; Kailee Mastel (Chase), Felix and Olin; Chelsey Erickson (Jeffrey), Warren, Greta, Hagen, and Anika; Jeremy Trogstad; Hunter Trogstad.

Hazel will be remembered for her quiet strength, steadfast faith, caring spirit, and deep love for her family and community. Her legacy lives on in the many lives she touched through her kindness, encouragement, and example.
