Ida Hanson, age 91, of Fosston and formerly from McIntosh and Erskine, MN passed away on Saturday, February 2nd at Midway Care Center in Fosston. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 6th at 11:00 AM at Trinity Free Lutheran Church, rural McIntosh with Rev. Dale Mellgren officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the funeral at the church, and interment will be at the church cemetery. Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home serving McIntosh is in charge of the arrangements. Sympathy messages may be sent to www.carlinhoialmen.com.Ida Nesland was born on January 31, 1917 to parents Olaf O. and Sena (Paulson) Nesland on their farm in Lessor Township, rural McIntosh, MN. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church where she was a lifetime member. Ida attended the Hillside Country School through the 8th grade. She later went to the Twin Cities and stayed with her aunt and uncle and attended Seamstress School.On January 2, 1935 Ida was united in marriage to Kenneth Lenard Ferden at the Trinity Parsonage and they raised their four children on their farm north of McIntosh. Ida was active in Ladies Aid, Luther League and Sunday School. She belonged to the Lessor Homemakers Club and was a leader of the Lessor Live-Wires 4-H Club. She loved to sew and made most of the clothes for her children as they were growing up. She made many quilts and gave them to her children and grandchildren for special occasions. In the wintertime, Ida and the neighbor ladies enjoyed many quilting parties. She enjoyed helping and caring for the animals on the farm and had her special pets. She also enjoyed her flower beds, her vegetable garden, doing embroidery and she loved to cook and bake and belonged to the "Birthday Club".Her husband, Kenneth passed away on June 10, 1970. She had an auction sale and went to work as a nurses aid for almost 10 years at Pioneer Nursing Home in Erskine, MN where she met Andrew Hanson. They were married on June 2, 1979 at Trinity Lutheran Church and lived in Erskine. They enjoyed traveling and went on tours to many interesting places in the U.S. Andy passed away on September 26, 2006.On February 2, 2008 Ida Hanson passed away at the age of 91 years at Midway Care Center in Fosston, MN, where she had lived since December 15, 2003.Survivors include her daughter, Shirley Ann (Derry) DeFrang of McIntosh; daughter-in-law, Olive Ferden of Lake Park, MN; son-in-law, Keith Raben of Miles City, MT; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; five great great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins; and several sisters-in-law.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; step father, Matt Thompson; son, Kermit Ferden; daughters, Donna Raben and Ilene Gustafson; son-in-law, Art Gustafson; grandson, Johnny DeFrang; brothers, Clarence, Oscar and Arthur Nesland; sister, Dora Heinbecker; and many other relatives.
