Irene "Tootsie" Aakhus, age 95, of Fosston, Minnesota passed away on Friday, January 4th at First Care Nursing Home in Fosston. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 9th at 2:00 PM at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston. Visitation will be held for one hour before the funeral at the church, and interment will be at Poplar River Cemetery, rural Fosston. Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston is in charge of the arrangements. Sympathy messages may be sent to www.carlinhoialmen.com.Irene "Tootsie" May Olson was born on May 25, 1912 in Gully, Minnesota to Hans Edward Olson and Karen (Hole) Olson. She moved to Fosston, Minnesota at age three. Tootsie was married to Arnold Aakhus in 1929.When Arnie was drafted into WWII, Tootsie became a telephone operator. She also was a cook at Mel's Café and a teacher's aide at the elementary school in Fosston. Her last position was the Program Director at the Fosston Civic Center.Tootsie was the youngest of five children.On Friday, January 4, 2008 Irene "Tootsie" Aakhus passed away at First Care Nursing Home in Fosston at the age of 95 years, 7 months, and 10 days.Survivors include 11 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren; son-in-law, Chuck Fowlds of Orofino, ID; as well as other relatives.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arnie; two sons, Chat and John (Jack); one daughter, Debbie Fowlds; one sister, Stella Wynne; and three brothers, Ernest (Dick), Clifford, and Alvin (Swede).
