Irvin Christianson, age 84, of Fosston, MN, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, September 6th, at his home. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 12th, at Sand Valley Lutheran Church in Trail with the Rev. Jeffrey Merseth and Dawn Hanson, LLM officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery, rural McIntosh. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Irvin Delano Christianson was born on December 14, 1940, in Hill River Township to parents Carl J. and Alma (Grover) Christianson. Irvin attended the Ridgelawn School (District 200) and Fosston High School.
On June 9, 1961, he was united in marriage to Ruby Grimm of rural Brooks, MN. They made their home north of Fosston and started their farm. They had many farm animals over the years including cows, chickens, pigs, and foxes Henrietta and Sassy.
Irvin worked for Percy Johnson on the Silver Creek Mink Ranch. Then, he worked for Black Gold before working at Northen Sand and Gravel until his retirement in 2004. Irvin had a love for the outdoors, especially his garden and flower beds. Irvin and Ruby spent many hours together in the kitchen canning and cooking. He enjoyed hunting with the grandkids and ice fishing on Lake of the Woods. Irin and Ruby liked to take the old Chevy Impala and the Oldsmobile out for supper and drive around with neighbors Edward and Judy, Scott and Jodi and his family. After they sold the farm and moved to town they still enjoyed their ranger rides together and rocking together in their porch swing.
Irvin passed away early in the morning of September 6th at his home in rural Fosston at the age of 84.
Irvin is remembered by his beloved wife of 64 years Ruby; children Sue (Dave) Sorvig of Williams, MN, Wanda (Joe) Manecke of Fosston, and Travis of Fosston. Sister-in-law Pearl Johnson and Delores Grimm. Grandchildren Amanda (Matt) Kvien, Shena (Devyn) Brandt, Levi (Julia) Nelson, Ciscely (Matt) Harrison, Dustin (Sara) Manecke, Tyler (Nicole) Manecke, Briana (Cody) Olson, Alyssa Damm, and Isaac Christinson. 15 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son Scotty, sisters Carol Beaudoin and Alvina Johnson, brothers Duane and Wallace Christianson, and five infant great-grandchildren.
