Janis Aos, age 78, of Pine Lake near Gonvick, MN, passed away on Saturday, March 14th, at the Good Samaritan Center in Clearbrook, MN. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 21st, at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Michael Sletto officiating. Interment will be in Lund Lutheran Cemetery, Gully, MN. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Friday, March 20th, at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com.Janis Ione Fjerstad Aos was born on October 7, 1936 at home in Brandsvold Township, rural Fosston, Minnesota to parents Lloyd and Sadie Carver Fjerstad. She grew up in Brandsvold Township and attended the Cloverdale country school and Fosston High School as part of the class of 1954. Janis was united in marriage to Richard Aos on June 29, 1953 by the Rev. Halvor Lee. After their marriage, Dick and Jan moved to Fort Riley, Kansas while Dick was serving in the Army. After Dick's discharge in January of 1955, they lived in Gully, Minnesota. In 1959, they moved to Red Lake Falls, Minnesota where Jan worked at a local fabric shop. They moved to East Grand Forks, Minnesota in 1965 where she worked for Pillsbury in Grand Forks and Tri-Valley Opportunity Council in Crookston. In addition, Jan attended East Grand Forks technical college, graduating with a degree in interior design in 1975. They retired in 1988 and moved to Pine Lake near Gonvick, Minnesota where they have since resided. She was a member of Lund Lutheran Church in Gully where she was active in ladies aid. She was also a member of the Gonvick American Legion Auxiliary Post #304 and the McIntosh V.F.W. Auxiliary Post #6891. She enjoyed painting, sewing and gardening. Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Richard "Dick" of Pine Lake; one son, Ritchie Aos of East Grand Forks, MN; five grandchildren, Michael (Grace) Aos of Colorado Springs, CO, Heather Geres of Sioux Falls, SD, Haley Aos and Ashley Aos, both of East Grand Forks, MN; and Emily (Dean) Deck of Bemidji, MN; six great grandchildren, Ian, Colin, Avrianna, Everett, Lance, and Deacon; one brother, Robert Fjerstad of Carleton, MN; and two sisters, Mavis LaVoi of St. Cloud, MN, and Vicki (Wayne) Strom of McIntosh, MN. Nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Gregory; daughter, Pamela; one brother, Russell; sister, Shirley Knudson; brothers-in-law, Bill LaVoi and Winton Knudson; and one sister-in-law, Marie Fjerstad.Pallbearers: Janis's nephews - Clayton Fjerstad, Colin Fjerstad, Wayne Fjerstad, Mike LaVoi, Tim LaVoi, Terry LaVoi, Kevin LaVoi, Corey LaVoi, Dave LaVoi, Blake Knudson, Ron Knudson, Ryan Knudson, Chad Strom, Mark Strom, and Marshall Strom.
