Obituary

Jeffrey (JB) Brekke, age 64, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Saturday, June 20th, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 24th, at Vernes Lutheran Church, rural McIntosh, MN, with the Rev. Lee Laaveg officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are with Carlin Family Funeral Service of Fosston and messages of condolence may be shared at www.carlinfuneral.com.

Jeffrey Vern Brekke was born on April 10, 1962, in Fosston, to his loving parents, Rueben and Lorraine (Syverson) Brekke. Jeffrey's birthday was made even more special because he shared it with both an aunt and a first cousin. He attended school in McIntosh, Minnesota, graduating from Mac-Winger High School in 1980. After High School, Jeffrey joined his brothers Wesley and Wayne farming for Brekke Brothers Farm. For many years Jeffrey worked for the American Legion in Fosston where his distinct laugh and outgoing personality made him many lifelong friends. Throughout his life, he also worked for MDV, Voxland Farms, Transystems, and trucking for his brother Wayne until November of 2024.

Jeffrey, also known to many as “JB,” passed away leaving behind countless memories, laughter, and the unmistakable presence that made him one of a kind. JB was known for his kind and compassionate heart. He had a way of making people feel welcome, valued, and cared for. Whether offering a helping hand, sharing a story, or simply being there when someone needed him, his generosity touched many lives.

He was impossible to miss with his trademark long, messy hair and infectious personality. JB had a special talent for telling terrible jokes—not because they were funny, but because he loved seeing the reactions they brought from family and friends. Making people laugh or roll their eyes was one of his favorite pastimes, and he never missed an opportunity to lighten the mood.

JB made his home on Store Lake, a place he loved and where he found peace and happiness. He enjoyed watching the variety of wildlife that visited the lake and the peacefulness of the nature that surrounded him every day.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.

Survivors include two brothers, Wesley (Valerie) Brekke of McIntosh, MN and Wayne (Renee) Brekke of Trail, MN; nieces and nephews, Beth (Shawn) Rominski of Stephen, MN, Sandy Enger of Northwood, ND, Nicole (Jer) Thomsen of Marble, MN, Chris Skalsky, of Hibbing, MN and Derek (Kate) Skalsky of Nashwauk, MN; and many great nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by his parents Rueben and Lorraine; nephew in-law, Todd Enger and many loved aunts and uncles.
