Joyce Brinkman, age 85 of Fosston, MN, passed away on Monday (September 24th) at First Care Living Center in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday (September 28th) at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. John Dalen officiating. Interment will be in Kingo Lutheran Cemetery, Fosston. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Thursday (September 27th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Joyce Evangeline Brinkman was born on May 31, 1927 in Hill River Township, Minnesota to parents Olaf and Emma (Oistad) Brinkman. She moved with her family to Fosston in 1947 and has lived there since that time.Joyce worked as bookkeeper at the Fosston Creamery for several years, Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston for many years and Our Savior's Lutheran Church in McIntosh for several years. Joyce was a dedicated volunteer and faithful servant to her Lord throughout her life. As a dedicated community volunteer, Joyce spent countless hours volunteering at area nursing homes, especially First Care Nursing Home. Joyce received numerous awards in recognition of her dedication to volunteering. She received the Fosston Service Award in 1998, the State Volunteer of the Year Award from the Health and Housing Alliance in 2003 and the Polk County Outstanding Senior Citizen Award in 2005. She also served on the board at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine.As a faithful servant, Joyce taught vacation bible school at many rural schools, was Sunday School Superintendent and Associate in Ministry at Kingo Lutheran Church for many years; she was the Chaplain at First Care Medical Services in Fosston, and provided ministerial assistance for many churches in the area for many years.Joyce loved her many nieces and nephews and enjoyed showering them with gifts. She will also be remembered for her love of all children, taking the time to make each one feel special. She will be dearly missed.Joyce passed away on Monday, September 24, 2012 at First Care Living Center in Fosston at the age of 85 years, three months and 24 days.Survivors include one sister, Marie Thompson; two brothers, Dewain (Arlene) Brinkman and Nordin (Barbara) Brinkman, all of Fosston; and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Glen; sister-in-law, Clarice; brother-in-law, Alvin Thompson; and nephew, Steven Brinkman.
