Karen Langseth

January 11, 1950 — August 31, 2020

Karen Langseth, age 70, of Gully, MN, passed away on Monday, August 31st, at her home, following a courageous battle with cancer. A memorial graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9th, at St. Charles Catholic Cemetery, rural Trail, MN with the Rev. Jane Ekholm officiating. Covid-19 protocol will be observed and please bring your own chair to the service. Karen Ann Schmit was born in Fosston, Minnesota to Leonard P. and Tone P. (Godtland) Schmit on January 11, 1950. She grew up in the Trail, Minnesota area, attended elementary school in Gully, Minnesota through the eighth grade and graduated from Fosston High School in 1968. She then attended Bemidji State College from 1969 until her graduation in 1972 with a BS degree in mathematics and accounting. Her first job was with the Department of Commerce, Banking Division, from 1973 to 1976. She lived in St. Cloud, Minneapolis, and Thief River Falls while working for the banking division. Karen was united in marriage to Ordell Langseth on June 17, 1976 and they moved to a home in Eden Township where they spent all of their married life. She started working at the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine in August of 1979 as a bookkeeper and continued until June of 2012, ending with the job of Office Manager. She enjoyed mowing the many lawns they took care of and helping the family and the grandkids. Survivors include her husband, Ordell, of Gully; two sons, Chad (Stacey), of Oslo, MN, and Ryan, of Grand Forks, ND; three grandchildren, Tone, Mary, and Joseph; five siblings, Lowell (Tonya) Schmit, of Texas, Roger, of Gully, Penny (Kent) Smith, of Warroad, MN, Jerome (Nancy) Schmit, of Gully, and Patsy (Al) Broten, of Park Rapids, MN. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.She was preceded in death by her parents; and two siblings, Milo and Larry.
