Kevin Wayne Haugen, age 60, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at his home in Fosston. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 18th, at the Carlin Funeral Home in Fosston. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Friday (September 18th) at the funeral home. He was born on July 4, 1964, in Fosston, Minnesota, to Kermit Haugen and Diane Knutson.

Kevin grew up in McIntosh, Minnesota, the community he would later raise his own two sons in. In his later years, he made his home between Fosston and Erskine, but McIntosh always remained an important part of his story.

Kevin was a hardworking man who spent much of his life working with his hands and traveling wherever work took him. He worked as a Safety Officer for Wilde Construction, Mastec, and Avena, and also ran a steel saw for Wiesgram Metal Fab. He enjoyed telling stories about the places his work took him, from Alaska all the way down to Florida. Those travels gave him countless stories, and he was always happy to share them with anyone willing to listen.

But more than anything, Kevin was a father.

He took great pride in raising his sons, Brandon and Zachary, and worked hard to teach them the things he believed mattered most: respect, hard work, and a love for nature. He coached basketball for his sons when they were young and enjoyed taking them golfing. Some of his greatest memories were simply the time he spent with his boys.

Kevin also had a special place in his heart for his granddaughters. He loved taking care of them and spoiled them every chance he got. His grandchildren brought him a kind of happiness that was impossible for him to hide, and he cherished every opportunity to spend time with them.

Kevin had many passions throughout his life. He loved music, hunting, fishing, sports, and golfing. He enjoyed cooking and traveling, and he loved being outdoors. He also had a deep connection to the community where he grew up. He often told stories about his younger years in the bait business and about the time he had Mel’s Arcade in McIntosh.

Kevin was a storyteller, a jokester, and someone who loved making people laugh. He had a way of turning an ordinary moment into a story that people would remember. And, true to Kevin, there was often a familiar phrase somewhere along the way: “I bet you dollars to doughnuts!”

Those who knew Kevin also knew that if someone needed a hand, he would help if he could. He was the kind of person who didn’t always need to be asked twice. He believed in helping people and doing what he could for those around him.

Kevin leaves behind his sons, Brandon Haugen of Fosston and Zachary Haugen of Fosston; and his grandchildren, Ronnie Haugen, Evelyn Haugen, and Pheonix Haugen.

He will be remembered for his stories, his humor, his hard work, his love of the outdoors, and most of all, for the love he had for his family.

Kevin’s greatest legacy will not be found in the places he worked or the miles he traveled, but in the people he loved and the lessons he left behind. His sons carry the values he taught them, and his grandchildren carry the love he gave them so freely.

He was a father, a grandfather, a storyteller, a helper, and a man who knew how to make people laugh.

He will be deeply missed, but the stories, lessons, laughter, and love he gave his family will remain for generations to come.
