Larry Johnson, age 63, of Winger, MN passed away on Thursday, July 31st at his residence near Winger. Memorial services will be held on Friday, August 8th at 11:00 AM at Union Lake Free Lutheran Church, rural Winger with Rev. Jerome Nikunen officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the service at the church and interment of cremains will be at Lima Cemetery. Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston, MN is in charge of the arrangements. Larry Curtis Johnson was born in Fosston, MN on June 13, 1945 to parents Albin and Madeline (Goodrie) Johnson. He was raised on the family farm in Garden Township, rural Winger, MN, which was homesteaded by his great grandfather in 1881.Larry was drafted into the service by the U.S. Army in January, 1968. He spent his two year tour in Vietnam and was honorably discharged January, 1970, after which he returned home to farm.Larry retired from farming fulltime due to ill health and pursued his interests in hunting and trapping. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved planting and harvesting trees and boat rides on his lake to enjoy a majestic pair of nesting swans. Larry greatly appreciated the wildlife surrounding his cabin, woods, and lake and often discovered new creatures he had never seen before and shared joyful moments discussing them and other new things he had learned in books and documentaries. He was a vigilant son who rarely went a day without spending an evening watching T.V. programs with his mom and reminiscing about old friends, family, and neighbors. Larry was a quiet presence in the neighborhood who was always willing to help out a neighbor in need. He will be greatly missed.On Thursday, July 31, 2008 Larry Johnson passed away at his residence near Winger at the age of 63 years.Survivors include his mother, Madeline Johnson of rural Erskine, MN; two nieces, Tammy Sandhu` and Kim Rose; and great niece, Cheyenne Munuwar.He was preceded in death by his father, Albin Johnson; and one sister, Renee Rose.
