Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com.LaVerne "Lovie" Jesness was born in Grand Forks, North Dakota, on April 1, 1919, to parents Erik and Dina (Evje) Nyberg. She attended country school in the Gully area until her freshman year, she went to school in Fosston one year and then transferred to Ballard High School, in Seattle, Washington. She lived with her sister, Florence. She returned to Fosston after graduation and attended business college in Grand Forks and married Jerry Jesness on July 1, 1941. After their wedding they moved to Seattle, where Jerry was employed at Boeing until he was drafted, at that time Lovie moved back to Fosston with their baby girl, Janet. Lovie had various places of employment in the Fosston area, bookkeeper, office manager, typing medical records, until she and Edith Brink purchased Style Rite Village. They kept the women in the Fosston area in style for 20 years. During this time Lovie was also active in the Athenian Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Hope Lutheran Church Women's groups, McDowell Club, Etc. After selling Style Rite, she spent her time becoming the "perennial volunteer". Her favorite project was the East Polk County Heritage Center. Countless hours went into finding a house, moving and refurbishing it, filling it with period items, planning Heritage Days, adding other buildings, so much that her family and friends knew that if they wanted to find her they would first check the Heritage Center. She was also a hospital volunteer, started the Food Shelf, sold daffodils each year for cancer, made countless quilts with the Hope Lutheran Church women, tended to her house and gardens. Another of her greatest achievements was the Centennial Book. She and Jo Mark, spent countless hours of research documenting the history of the Fosston area and its inhabitants. After suffering a stroke in 2000 she moved into the First Care Nursing Home on October 30th and resided there for the rest of her life. Our family will never be able to repay the staff at First Care for giving our Mom, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother such loving care for 15 plus years. They became her family here in Fosston. She is preceded in death by her two sisters, 4 brothers, her husband, Jerry and her daughter, Liz. She is survived by her son, Thomas of Fosston; her daughter Janet and her husband Jim of Northfield, MN; grandchildren, Eric Dale (Diane) of Reno, NV, Kristine Beale (Brad) of Shoreview, MN, Karen Boardman (Steve) of Northfield, MN; great grandchildren, Casey, James and Matthew Dale; Logan, Connor and Griffin Beale; Grant, Sam and Max Boardman.
