Lloyd Dunrud, age 91, of rural Gully, MN, passed away on Friday, September 29th, at Essentia First Care Living Center in Fosston, MN. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 6th, at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Interment will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, rural Gully. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Thursday, October 5th, at the Carlin Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at www.carlinfuneral.com.Lloyd Donald Dunrud was born November 19, 1925 to parents William and Ragna Jacobsen Dunrud at their home in Gully, Minnesota. He was baptized on April 21, 1926. At the age of 2, the family moved to the Dunrud farm located in Brandsvold Township, rural Fosston, with Lloyd's grandparents, Hans and Mathia Dunrud, a farm they homesteaded. He attended Cloverdale Country School through the eighth grade. At that time he started taking care of the farm, as his father and brother were working out West during the war years. Lloyd milked cows, did the field work, etc. He had both dairy and beef cattle for many years, handling untold numbers of hay and straw bales, and he continued with grain farming.Lloyd married Judith Axelvold on December 28, 1963 at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston. They purchased and lived on the farm, where they raised their family-Steven, Stephanie, Joel and Bryan.Lloyd was an avid sports fan, enjoying all those his family participated in over the years-basketball, football, and baseball, and kept up with the local sports teams. He enjoyed the Twins and the Vikings. Lloyd bowled for many years-in men's league in Oklee and the Legion team and mixed doubles in Fosston.Lloyd served on the school board at Sunnyside Country School and was a supervisor for Brandsvold Township for many years. Lloyd was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, rural Fosston, until its closing in 2012, holding offices of treasurer, trustee, and deacon over the years. At that time his membership continued at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston. Lloyd had a strong Christian faith. Even with the progression of dementia, he would still talk about, and to, God praying for family, friends, and others with needs.Lloyd passed away on Friday, September 29, 2017 at Essentia First Care Living Center in Fosston and the age of 91 years.Lloyd is survived by his wife Judith, of Gully; son, Steven of Bottineau, ND, daughter, Stephanie (Preston) Howard of Fosston, son, Joel of Fosston, and son, Bryan (Cassie) of Perham, MN; six grandchildren, Pete (Jennifer) Howard of Fosston, Scott Howard of Fosston, Creedan Dunrud, Annika Dunrud, and Nicholas LeTourneau, all of Perham, MN, and Heather (Shane) Bain of Altoona, Iowa; five great grandchildren, Jake Howard, Emma Howard, Erin Howard, Boone Bain and Remi Bain; four sisters, Ruby Wold of Fosston, Mavis (Richard) Linder of Bradenton, FL, Marion (Jack) Hansel of Eastanollee, GA, and Verna (David) Heaney of Tucson, AZ; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Donna and George Engen of Laramie, WY; and special cousin, Harry Dunrud of Fosston. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Morris Dunrud; sister-in-law, Jeanette Dunrud; brother-in-law, Vernon Wold; and mother and father-in-law, Dorothy and Kenny Axelvold.
