Lois Ball, age 76, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Friday, October 8th, at her home. Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 16th, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Lengby with the Rev. Gene Lillienthal officiating. Interment will be in Immanuel Cemetery, Lengby. Family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Arrangements are with Carlin Family Funeral Service of Fosston and messages of condolence may be shared at www.carlinfuneral.com. With the ongoing threat of corona virus, the family sincerely understands and respect the concerns of attending in person. Lois Mardel Halvorson was born on August 18, 1945, in Fosston, Minnesota to parents Otto and Alna (Reiten) Halvorson. She was baptized at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at Ebro Corner. She lived in Fosston until the 3rd grade when her family moved to Bagley, Minnesota where she graduated from high school. After high school, she worked at Francine’s store in Fosston.
Lois was united in marriage to Leonard Ball on September 25, 1965, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. They lived for a short time in Fosston and Lengby before purchasing a farm south of Lengby. Together, Lois and Leonard farmed and raised their family. In addition to helping with farm chores, through the years, Lois worked at Schermerhorn Ranch garment factory, Manecke’s Café in Fosston and in the deli at Palubicki’s grocery store in Fosston. In 2006, they moved to Fosston.
Lois enjoyed playing cards, hosting numerous card game nights at her home. She especially enjoyed any time that she could spend with her grandchildren. All of them were so special to her.
Survivors include her devoted husband of 56 years, Leonard, of Fosston; four children, Larry (Leslie) Ball of Ennis, MT, Lori Ball of Ennis, MT, Leslie (Terri) Ball of Bemidji, MN, and Lyle (Kerry) Ball of Lengby; 10 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; siblings, Janice Stormo of Clearbrook, MN, Carol (Ordean) Sundrud of Fosston, James (Sandra) Halvorson of Gonvick, MN, and Donald (Kelly) Halvorson of Mahnomen; three sisters-in-law, Holly Halvorson of Circle Pines, MN, Mavis Halvorson of Wind Lake, WI, and Betty Holms of Sauk Centre, MN; and brother-in-law, Robert Ball of Fosston. Nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Orlo Halvorson; sister, Linda Maruska; brother, Jerome Halvorson; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
