Lorraine Baity-Jackson, age 58, of Fosston, MN and formerly of White Earth, MN, passed away unexpectedly on Monday (July 5th) near St. Cloud, MN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday (July 10th) at the White Earth Tribal Community Center with Pastor Tim Brown officiating. Interment will be in St. Columba Episcopal Cemetery, White Earth. Visitation will start at 6:00 p.m. on Friday (July 9th) and continue until the time of the service on Saturday morning. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening. All visitation and the prayer service will be held at the White Earth Tribal Community Center. Lorraine Romal Baity was born on July 9, 1962, in Minneapolis, Minnesota to parents Charles and Christine (Manypenny) Baity. She was born the youngest of nine siblings. As a young girl, she moved with her family to White Earth and attended the White Earth School. She moved back to Minneapolis at the age of 14 where she met Donald DeGroat, Sr. Lorraine and Donald were married on May 24, 1979. Together they had nine children, Catherine, Constance (Phillip), Carolyn (Glenn), Donald Jr. (Anessa), Candice, Cassondra, Douglas, Corina and Dion (Nikki). Lorraine and Donald divorced in 1994.
Lorraine met Mike Oppegard, Sr. and she gained a daughter and a son whom she loved and cared for, Jennifer and Richard. Also, to this union, one child, Michael Oppegard, Jr. (Maddy) was born. At this time, the family resided in Mahnomen, Minnesota.
Lorraine reconnected with a long-time friend, Kevin Jackson, in 2009. They were in a loving relationship for two years prior to their marriage on November 7, 2011. They lived for several years in Mahnomen before moving to Fosston, Minnesota. Kevin passed away on December 5, 2020. Lorraine has continued to live in Fosston since that time.
Lorraine was a very artistic and crafty person. She loved making things for her loved ones and she enjoyed making nothing into something for people to enjoy. She loved spending time with family. She was very caring. Her door was always open for whoever needed a place to stay. She always wanted to help. She loved with her whole heart. She's going to be missed by all whose life she's touched.
Lorraine passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 5, 2021 near St. Cloud, Minnesota the age of 58 years.
She is survived and missed by her 11 children; 38 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; five siblings, Katherine Bellanger of Waubun, MN, Dinah Smith of White Earth, Donald Baity of White Earth, Gerald Baity of Minneapolis, Doris Baity of Buffalo, MN. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kevin; infant step-son, William Oppegard; grandson, Sebastian Bevins; and three brothers, Francis, Stan and Marvin.
