Lorraine Hilliard, age 81, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Saturday (November 2nd) at First Care Living Center in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday (November 8th) at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. John Dalen officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from noon until 2:00 p.m. on Friday at Kingo Lutheran Church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com.Lorraine Mae Gunderson was born on January 27, 1932 in Bejou, Minnesota to parents Helmer and Mary (Uhlir) Gunderson. She grew up and attended country school in the Bejou area. She worked as a waitress at a café in Fosston, at Francin's Variety Store in Fosston and the Simplot Potato Plant in Fosston.She was united in marriage to Kermit Hilliard on April 18, 1953 in Mahnomen, Minnesota. After their marriage, they lived for a short time in Alaska and North Dakota before making their home in Lengby, Minnesota. They moved to Fosston in 1956. Lorraine spent many years working at the Johnson Rest Home in Fosston and completed her CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) certification when she was 68 years old.Lorraine was a long time member of Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston. She was an excellent cook, especially holiday meals and when the family came to visit. She also enjoyed gardening, canning and spending time with her family at Itasca State Park and going for drives around the area. She also occasionally liked to dance and listen to old time country and gospel music. Lorraine passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at First Care Living Center in Fosston at the age of 81 years, nine months and six days. Survivors include three sons, Gary (Becky) of Glyndon, MN, Steve (Renee) of Bagley, MN, and Randy (Denelle) of Bemidji, MN; four grandchildren, Jessica (Tim) Aland, Ashley, Annika and Mikkel; one great grandchild, Chase; and step grandchildren, Madison and Jared.Also surviving is her brother, Arnold (Diane) Gunderson of McIntosh, MN; and two sisters, Adele (LeRoy) Stenmoen of McIntosh, and Elaine (Don) Cole of the Twin Cities; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.She was preceded in death by her husband, Kermit on December 17, 1999; her parents; and three sisters, Marion, Verna and Arlene.
