Lowell Amundson, age 58, of Mentor, MN passed away after a lengthy illness on Sunday, March 16th at his home in Mentor. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 22nd at 2:00 PM at Faith Lutheran Church in Mentor with Rev. Tim Lundeen officiating. Visitation will be held for one hour before the memorial service at the church and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine, MN is in charge of the arrangements.Lowell Gust Amundson was born on July 5, 1949 in Fosston, Minnesota to parents Otto and Olga (Wickstrom) Amundson. He attended school in Erskine, Minnesota, finished high school at the Ag School in Crookston and attended the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton for one year for Auto Body. He was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Erskine and a member at Faith Lutheran Church in Mentor, Minnesota.Lowell served in the United States Army from September 4, 1970 to August 31, 1973.He was united in marriage to Sally LaFontaine on July 25, 1981 in Bagley, Minnesota. They made their home in the Erskine and Mentor area and raised two daughters, Cassie and Sandy. Lowell worked in Auto Body painting cars and trucks and worked road construction. He loved reading, gardening, wood cutting, hunting and just hanging out at the farm for quiet contemplation.After a lengthy illness Lowell was put on a lung transplant list. He was air lifted to the University of Minnesota Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis on August 7, 2007. After four months of ICU care and little hope of recovery he opted to come home to be with family and friends. It was there that he peacefully passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2008, surrounded by his loved ones, at the age of 58 years, 8 months and 11 days.Survivors include his wife, Sally of Mentor; two daughters, Cassie (Erik) Jax of Erskine and Sandy Amundson of Mentor; one brother, Douglas Amundson of Erskine; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews also survive.He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Darlene Barron.
