Lowell Whitaker, age 63, of Winger, MN, passed away on Monday (December 29th) at the Essentia Health Hospital in Fosston. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (January 3rd) at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Fosston. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service on Friday (January 2nd) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. Military honors will be conducted by the National Guard Honors Team and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston is in charge of the arrangements. Messages of condolence may be sent at carlinhoialmen.com. Lowell Deane Whitaker was born on May 29, 1951 in Carthage, Illinois to parents Howard Duane and Dolores Staworzynski Whitaker. He grew up in Van Wert, Ohio and graduated from high school there in 1969.  He entered the United States Army in 1969 and served his country in Vietnam and was later stationed in Germany. After his discharge, he returned to the States working various jobs before moving to Moorhead, Minnesota in 1991. He moved to Fosston in 1999. Lowell attended Northwest Technical College in Thief River Falls from 2000 until his graduation in 2002. He has worked at the Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen, Minnesota for the past 14 years. Lowell has resided in Winger, Minnesota since 2000. He loved to fish and spend time with family, especially his grandson, Jackson.  Lowell passed away on Monday, December 29, 2014 at Essentia Health Hospital in Fosston at the age of 63 years. He is survived by his mother, Dolores Whitaker Ainsworth of Lima, OH; long-time partner, Sandra Schultz of Winger; step-daughter, Darci Schultz (Feodor Seledkov) of Fosston; grandson, Jackson Schultz; son, Michael Whitaker of Indiana; two brothers, Cass Whitaker of Melbourne, FL and Matt Whitaker of Findlay, OH; two sisters, Deb Leffler of Cardington, OH and Evalynn Shaffner of Lima, OH; nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; sisters-in law, Donna Moy, Karen Schultz and Tina Averill; and brother-in-law, Edward (Renae) Schultz, all of Fosston. He was preceded in death by his father; paternal grandparents, Dorothy and Charlie Whitaker; maternal grandparents, Frank and Zenobia Staworzynski; uncle, Dennis Whitaker; and brother-in-law, Gary Moy. Honorary Pallbearers: Shooting Star AssociatesActive Pallbearers: Teri Averill, Cody Fjerstad, John Duchene, Lynn Lucken, Feodor Seledkov, Gary Litzau, and Jeff Nesvold.
