Luella Strande

Luella Strande, age 86, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Wednesday (September 3rd) at North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji, MN. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday (September 8th) at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Paul Magelssen officiating. Interment will be in Hope Lutheran Cemetery, Fosston. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Sunday (September 7th) at the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Fosston and sympathy messages may be sent at www.carlinhoialmen.com.Luella Ingeborg Roland was born on December 18, 1921 in Alamo, North Dakota to Ingvald and Thora (Aspebakken) Roland. She grew up in rural Fosston and graduated from Fosston High School. She worked at the Fosston Creamery, secretary at Hope Lutheran Church, the B & B Café in McIntosh and the Pine to Prairie Café in Fosston.She was united in marriage to Philip Strande on February 19, 1944. They lived in Fosston where they raised their four children. They owned and operated Northside Grocery for many years. Philip passed away in 1986.She had a life time membership at the Embassy Community Center. Her interests were knitting, Yatzee, playing cards, going to the casino and she enjoyed listening to polka music. Her family was the most important. She enjoyed all the visitors and phone calls.She passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at North Country Regional Hospital in Bemidji at the age of 86 years.She is survived by her children, Donna Taflin of Minneapolis, Norma Quam of Fosston, Larry (Marilyn) Strande of Burnsville, MN, and Scott (Teri) Strande of Minot, ND; AFS student, Karin (Gerhard) Howe of Germany; grandchildren, Don (Susan) Taflin, Carla (Jason) Montgomery, Jody Rock, Wendy (Mike) Powers, Andrea (Randy) Oelschlager, Travis (Emily) Quam, Tim (Sara) Strande, Karisa (Nick) Doyle, Neal, Tyler, Cassondra, Stephane and Spencer Strande, Elke and Edzart Howe and Michelle (Mike) Curfman; great grandchildren, Erika Swanson, Xavier Powers, Hunter and Sydney Oelschlager, Faith, Tucker, Kyra, and Myla Quam, Andrew Strande, Annika Doyle, and Caleb and Emily Curfman; and many nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Clifford Strande of Fosston; and two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Strande of Red Wing, MN, and Gilma Dietel of Hoquiam, WA.She took in those who needed a warm place to be. She was a "mom" and "gram" to many. She had a special spot in her heart for her niece Marlyss and family and Janet Reierson.She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Alf and Lars; and one sister, Helene.
