Marilyn Hamre, age 71, of McIntosh, MN passed away on Thursday, May 16th at Essentia Hospital in Fosston, MN. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 22nd at 11:00 AM at Mount Carmel Free Lutheran Church in McIntosh with Rev. Dale Mellgren officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 21st from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the McIntosh Community Center in McIntosh, and there will also be reviewal for one hour before the funeral at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Thief River Falls, MN, and the Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home serving McIntosh is in charge of the arrangements. Messages of condolence may be sent to carlinhoialmen.com.Marilyn Bernice Salvhus was born on February 15, 1942 to parents Andrew and Minnie (Dyrdahl) Salvhus in Fosston, MN. She was baptized on March 15, 1942 at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural McIntosh, MN, and graduated from McIntosh High School in 1960. Marilyn was united in marriage to Leighton Hamre on February 11, 1961 at Trinity Lutheran Church. They made their home in Thief River Falls, MN and raised four children. Marilyn did day-care in her home and she loved to take her little "chicks" everywhere. During that time she also worked at Arctic Cat, did bookkeeping for Northland Fire extinguisher, which was owned by her and her husband Leighton, and waitressed at The Club. After Leighton passed away on February 11, 1984, she decided to pursue her nursing career. Marilyn went on to LPN school, at NCTC in Thief River Falls, and graduated May 19, 1987. She worked as an LPN at Oakland Park Nursing Home and also did home health care services in Thief River Falls and at Mac Manor Nursing Home in McIntosh. Marilyn was a very caring person that would do anything for anyone, and went out of her way to make her patients feel special. She took great pride in her accomplishments and how many lives she touched. In 2001, she moved to McIntosh and retired in 2003.  Marilyn was a member of the Red Hat Society and NRA. After she retired; she enjoyed teaching Sunday School, gardening, going to garage sales, listening to music, traveling with her daughter and most of all; spending time with her family and her dog, Buddy.On Thursday, May 16, 2013 Marilyn passed away at Essentia Hospital in Fosston at the age of 71 years, three months and one day. She is survived by her children, Lori (Nick) Rierson of Crystal, MN, Lee (Kim) Hamre of Thief River Falls, and Kent (Vickie) Hamre of Sauk Rapids, MN; daughter-in-law, Jackie Hamre of Thief River Falls; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers, David (Sandy) Salvhus of McIntosh, and Dan (Mary) Salvhus of McIntosh; sister-in-law, Lori Salvhus of Ada, MN; brother-in-law, Glen Brua of McIntosh; as well as many other relatives.She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Minnie (Dyrdahl) Salvhus; her husband, Leighton; son, Kevin Hamre; sister; Joanne Brua; brother; Arvid Salvhus; her mother-in-law and father-in-law; Gladys and Melvin Hamre; sister-in-law; Bev Hamre, and brothers-in-law; Ray Aandal, Sheldon Nomeland, Ray Moe, and Jerry Hamre; and also her great grandson, Keegan Lee.
