Mary Kaye Sovick, age 62, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Sunday, September 29th, at Cornerstone Nursing and Rehab in Bagley, MN. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 4th, at Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston with the Rev. Peter Lurvey and Rev. Jane Ekholm officiating. Interment will be in Poplar River Cemetery, Fosston. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service on Thursday, October 3rd, at the Carlin Funeral Home in Fosston. There will also be reviewal for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church. Mary Kaye Handyside was born on October 25, 1961, in Fosston, Minnesota to parents Harry and Lucille (Rud) Handyside. She grew up on a farm in Island Lake Township, south of Lengby and graduated from Fosston High School in 1980. Following high school, Mary Kaye attended Thief River Falls Technical College for nursing. She worked as a nurse’s aide for many years at the McIntosh Manor and then at First Care in Fosston.
Mary Kaye was united in marriage to Steve Sovick on April 9, 2005, at the United Methodist Church in Fosston. They have lived in Fosston since that time.
She liked playing bingo, deer hunting, fishing, four-wheeling, and snowmobiling. She also was a good baker, enjoyed quilting, and helped serve the Thursday night meals at the American Legion in Fosston for several years. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her husband, Steve, of Fosston; three siblings, Linda (Sonny) Klinkhammer of Lengby, MN, Sharon Storrusten of Fosston, and Larry Handyside of Fosston; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Jim and Sue; infant brother, Chris; brother-in-law, Doug Storrusten; and sister-in-law, Lisa Handyside.
