Harold was born in Ross, North Dakota on March 22, 1931 to parents Peter and Katherine Schacher Abeldgaard and lived there until his family moved to McIntosh, Minnesota.
From an early age Harold learned to farm, drive tractor and trap animals. He joined the Army on September 16, 1952 and served until August 5, 1954 where he was an MP/MPCI in the Korean War.

On June 28, 1952 Harold was united in marriage to Betty Bjornerud at the Catholic Church in Fosston. Harold and Betty have lived and raised their family in the Lengby area since that time. To provide for his family Harold did many things. He farmed, owned and operated Abeldgaard Logging and Abeldgaard Auctions. He also was the past President of the Clearwater County Loggers Association and prided himself on getting laws passed to help his fellow loggers.

As an auctioneer he donated his time to numerous local churches. He enjoyed flying and piloting his own planes and when he wasn’t busy with other business ventures, Harold enjoyed hunting, fishing, training his chihuahuas tricks, visiting and enjoying adventures with his many friends and family. He also enjoyed blackjack and participating in local tournaments. Harold enjoyed passing on his life’s wisdom with his family and could often be found at his kitchen table teaching his family and friends life lessons.

Harold is survived by his children, Jeffery (Karen Murray) of Lengby, MN, Mark of Lengby, MN, and Diane (Billy Bushelle) Sherer of Lengby, MN; one brother, Peter Abeldgaard of Phoenix, AZ; eight grandchildren, Melissa (Curt) Ziegler, David Abeldgaard, Christopher (Cally) Abeldgaard, Samantha (Dillon) Bakke, Katelynn Abeldgaard, Katie Sherer, Matthew Sherer and Daniel (Amanda) Sherer; nine great grandchildren, Hailey Ziegler, Dawson Abeldgaard, Jaxson Abeldgaard, Isabella Johnson, Melody Bakke, Augustus Damann, Shayla Sherer, Ciara Sherer and Maci Sherer. Also many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Katherine Abeldgaard; wife, Betty Abeldgaard; one infant son, David; and seven siblings, Lettie Kisner, Doris Christianson, Margaret Pearson, Clarence Abeldgaard, Edna Arneberg, Betty Larson and Lloyd Abeldgaard.
Harold touched many lives in his lifetime and will be dearly missed, but lovingly remembered. Blessed be his memory.
