Orville Ulland, age 88, of Mentor, Minnesota passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2008 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine, MN. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. at Rodnes Lutheran Church in rural Erskine with the Rev. Peter Satren and the Rev. Dale Finstrom officiating. Visitation will be held at Rodnes on Friday, October 10, 2008 between 5:00 P.M. and 7:00 P.M., with a Family Service to follow. Interment will be at Rodnes Lutheran Church Cemetery. Carlin-Hoialmen Funeral Home of Erskine is in charge of the arrangements. Sympathy messages may be sent to www.carlinhoialmen.com.Orville Ulland was born on December 25, 1919 in Norway Township, Traill County, North Dakota to parents Christian and Syverina (Brusveen) Ulland. Orville first met the love of his life, Clarice Hoppe, in school when they were but six years old. He attended primary school in rural Hillsboro, North Dakota and graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1938. Orville and Clarice were married on April 5, 1941 in Crookston, Minnesota and celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in 2008.Orville and Clarice farmed together and ran a meat market in Buxton, N.D. after their marriage. They moved to Grand Forks, N.D., where Orville worked at Dow Supply until they purchased a farm and moved to Mentor in 1960. They started Ulland's Resort on the north end of Maple Lake in 1964. Besides farming up until his retirement, Orville was a master welder and worked on the Iron Range and missile sites in North Dakota. He became a resident of Pioneer Memorial Care Center in August of 2007.Orville was an active member of Rodnes Lutheran Church, serving as Church President from 1978 to 1985, and 1999 to 2001, and Vice President from 1988 to 1999, and 2002 to 2003, and he served as Deacon for six-three year terms. He was President of Rodnes Cemetery Association from May 1993 to July 2004. He was also active in township politics, serving on the Grove Park Township Board for 27 years. He enjoyed all the time he was able to spend with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. On Sunday, October 5, 2008 Orville Ulland, at the age of 88, passed away at Pioneer Memorial Care Center under the care of the staff of Pioneer and his family.Left to celebrate his life and his reunification with his wife, Clarice, who died just on August 27, 2008, are a daughter, Sandra (Keith) Fontaine of Mentor, a son, Gary (Rena) Ulland of Rice Lake, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren, Kip (Sheila) Fontaine of Bagley, MN, Kelly (Brian) Wavra of East Grand Forks, MN, Karl (Laurie) Fontaine of Cave Creek, AZ, Kraig (Amy) Fontaine of Bagley, Kirk Fontaine of Red Lake Falls, MN, Dr. Denver (Priscilla) Ulland of Duluth, MN, and Dr. Erik (Melanie) Ulland of Madison, WI; ten great-grandchildren, Karli, Keaton, and Kael Fontaine, Kloe Wavra, Kristian Fontaine, Kassandra and Kamden Fontaine, Dayton and Dalton Ulland, and Stellan Ulland; one brother, Daniel (Rose) Ulland of San Diego, CA; one sister, Mildred (Floyd) Erickson of West Fargo, ND; two sisters-in-law, Bessie (Lynn) Ulland of Mayville, ND and Madelyn (Hartman) Ulland of Fargo; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his wife, Clarice; parents; brothers, Hartvig, Lynn, Harold, and Hartman; sisters, Mildred C. Ulland, Gunda Almlie, Clara Thortvedt, Alice Tate, Hazel Gordon, and Vivian Johnson; and grandson, Kris Fontaine.We give many thanks to the staff at Pioneer, Dr. Darren Swanson, and Pastors Tim Lundeen, Dale Finstrom, and Peter Satren for all their tender care and support.
